Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Biologist, Field Coordinator to join our Environmental Services Practice working within our power utility sector in the Northern California region, to provide both technical biologic support on our various projects in addition to Field Coordination management on our multi-discipline programs. The position may also include leading desktop biological constraints reviews and working with Senior Biologists to support junior staff in completing reports, as well as maintaining key communications with the client. The position is to be based out of our Sacramento, Roseville, Chico, Redding, Walnut Creek, San Jose or Fresno offices and geographic alignment with other Stantec offices can be considered based on experience. Your Key Responsibilities
As a Biologist, Field Coordinator, you will lead biological environmental field surveys and monitoring efforts for public and private projects supporting utility programs.
This position is primarily desktop (remote work from home or office) but field opportunities will be available.
Task duties include:
Providing quality control and maintaining a high standard for safety on biological field reports/memos produced by junior biological staff and subcontractors.
Identification and support on environmental permitting, coordinating field survey logistics on various projects located throughout California, providing management of field survey and/or monitoring efforts, and coordination of biological reports with utility clients and internal Stantec teams.
Supporting multi-disciplinary project/program teams in all phases of the execution and delivery of utility operations and maintenance projects.
Understanding and knowledge of California flora/fauna will be needed, as well as understanding of typical construction activities on electric and/or gas and/or vegetation removal projects.
Supporting project management teams and working on the financials of dynamic projects.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Perform linear facility (i.e., utility, transportation, etc.) environmental work, including 3 -5 years of experience performing biological and/or permitting work for California IOUs (or equivalent).
Familiar with staffing large field projects, on multiple days, in multiple locations and ability to participate in multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.
Strong research, analysis, and reporting abilities.
Strong reviewing skills and QA/QC skills.
Detail-oriented and capable of managing and tracking large amounts of data.
Takes initiative, team-oriented professional with excellent written and communication skills.
Should be familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings.
Provide support in delivering high quality work products to multi-disciplinary project teams.
Ability to identify new project opportunities and build relationships with clients.
Strong skills as a self-starter, good client forward facing/communication skills.
Understanding of Federal and State agency requirements with special-status species on linear projects.
Must have a good driving record and a valid drivers license.
Preferred:
- CPUC experience a plus.
Education and Experience
Minimum 5 years relevant work experience in biology.
Minimum of a BA/BS degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
Master’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field a plus.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Salary Range(s):
- SF Area $85,900/CA Other Areas $75,000 - SF Area $124,600/CA Other Areas $108,800 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
