Your Opportunity
Do you want to help guide the future of ports in the United States and how our industry responds to the challenges of climate change, increasing cargo volumes, and adoption of net-zero systems and technologies? An exciting opportunity exists for a Project Manager to become part of our transportation business group in the Northeast, within our award-winning ports and marine terminals sector. Stantec’s transportation business group has a strong local presence and participates in many of the largest and most iconic transportation projects. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work as part of the PMT team of planners, engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients, including marine terminal operators, port authorities, NAVFAC, and offshore wind developers.
You will have the opportunity to make impactful contributions to our consulting services team by working with autonomy on projects of high complexity and leading teams or projects through all phases of development. Your technical abilities with ports/marine experience as well as interpersonal skills will be put to good use in supporting the leadership of a positive team environment, collaborative work with multiple disciplines, and reinforcing a culture of safety. Through your broad consulting background, you will perform a variety of tasks which may include design & design management, condition inspections, rehabilitation planning/design, quality assurance, project management, mentorship, client account management, resource planning, proposal writing, and quality management.
A technical background in marine structures engineering is preferred. Alternative technical backgrounds in port planning and operations, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and electrical engineering are also desired.
Your Key Responsibilities
Project Management:
Lead successful delivery of high-quality projects within budget and on schedule
Effectively collaborate with others and lead design teams
Identify project schedule and cost variances
Develop and implement corrective action plans in a timely manner
Have strong oral and written communication skills
Preparing and presenting information to clients, the public, and other stakeholders
Develop project scope, budget, and design approach for range of project sizes
Technical Project Delivery:
Support technical delivery on variety of port project types
Identify innovative design solutions responding to client, site, and project constraints
Perform quality reviews and provide technical guidance and oversight
Complete assigned tasks at high quality levels while meeting schedule expectations and collaborating across diverse technical teams
Develop engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates
Author project reports and contribute to proposal technical approaches
People, Process, and Business Leadership:
Commitment to quality and continuous improvement
Support quality management and safety plans
Provide training, mentorship, and direction less experienced engineers
Actively participate and lead organization of technical development and industry networking opportunities both internal and external
Assist with client account management, business development, and marketing activities.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Working knowledge of relevant port and waterfront design guidelines
Experience in preparation of construction drawings and specifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with project team, owners and clients
Ability to produce technical reports and memorandums as well as contribute to proposals
Able to independently manage multiple tasks and small projects
Strong project management skills including oversight of project teams' budget and schedule performance
Ability to lead individuals and teams on project assignments
Proficient with STAAD software for structural finite element modeling or equivalent software packages
Experience with CAD/BIM software including AutoCAD and Revit
Ability to travel up to 20% of the time for site visits and inspections
Valued additional capabilities:
Strong grasp of seismic, mooring, and berthing design of marine structures
Marine structures inspection and rehabilitation expertise
Experience working for port authorities and private marine terminal companies
Able to produce details in CAD/BIM and coordinate with senior CAD operators for drawing set development
Involvement in technical standards committees for COPRI, PIANC, and local jurisdictions
Post-graduate degree in civil/structural engineering or related field, Certificate in Port Engineering
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering & Licensed Professional Engineer
Minimum of 10 years of experience including minimum 2 years in a project management role

Salary Range(s):
- $126,600 - $193,000 Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
