Stantec's Knoxville, Tennessee office is growing and has an opportunity for a highly motivated Civil EIT candidate with experience in professional practice and design related to civil engineering. We will provide you with the opportunity to work in a team setting to obtain applicable experience for your Professional Engineering License as you work under the supervision and mentorship of experienced professional engineers. You will use your technical education and competencies in a consulting engineering role to perform engineering analysis and design using a variety of applications and tools, prepare technical reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for civil facilities (grading, roadways, drainage improvements, below grade utilities, supporting infrastructure, etc.), and assist with the implementation of these facilities on of a wide variety of projects. The selected candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills, technical design competence, and exceptional interpersonal communication skills.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assists senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope, quality, budget, staffing, and schedule.

  • Supports project team in development of engineering studies, design documentation, plans, and technical reports for relevant project design elements.

  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.

  • Utilizes technologies in development of three-dimensional models of civil systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers.

  • Serve as a member of the technical design team on site civil projects requiring geometric site layout, profiles, stormwater management, drainage, grading, water and sanitary sewer utilities, and erosion and sedimentation control.

  • Perform self-check and peer quality reviews for documents in various project phases including construction plans, reviewing submittal packages, and engineering calculation reports.

  • Support senior staff in preparation of project cost estimates and participate in value engineering exercises.

  • Attend and participate in project meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.

  • Attend and participate in meetings with clients, municipal officials, and contractors to review project needs.

  • Take sufficient notes at meetings to document discussions and organize follow-up action items.

  • Coordinate and keep consistent communication with other project team disciplines to ensure the entire design team has the same design intent.

  • Assist in the review of contractor shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, site observation reports, and perform other construction administration tasks.

  • Perform field work as required such as project site visits and meetings, construction project visits, and field reviews.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Self-motivated individual, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Candidate must have strong technical writing abilities.

  • Technical knowledge in site grading and drainage, water, and sewer projects is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS Mapping is a plus and willingness to learn relevant software such as WaterCAD, SewerCAD, StormCAD, Navisworks, etc.

  • Able to pass pre-employment and project-specific drug screenings as required.

  • Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.

  • Field work and associated travel may be required on a project-specific basis, including overnight stays out of town. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

Education and Experience

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in civil engineering.

  • Engineer-in-Training certification.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
