Your Opportunity
We are seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Aquatic Scientist to work from our Burnaby, Sidney, Terrace, or Quesnel, BC office on projects throughout British Columbia.
The successful candidate will join our team of aquatic specialists working on freshwater and marine fish and fish habitat, water quality, and ecological restoration field programs, baseline reporting, environmental assessment, and permit preparation. Aquatic ecology is a broad field, and our team comprises both generalists and specialists. We also collaborate closely with other technical teams at Stantec, such as those focused on water resources and ecological risk assessment. Your Key Responsibilities
Contribute to project scoping (study design and cost estimates)
Complete field programs as a crew lead in freshwater or marine environments
Complete quality and completeness checks on field data
Write technical reports
Prepare environmental permit applications
Comply with Stantec's quality and independent review process
Prioritize safety in all tasks
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment while fostering a fun and engaging atmosphere
Attention to detail and high-quality standards
Ability to both work within existing frameworks and identify opportunities to innovate
Experience and availability for regular field work locally and in remote and challenging locations for up to 14 days at a time
Familiarity with biological field methods, such as minnow trapping, beach seining, fish identification, sediment sampling, and the use of tools such as water quality meters
Leadership capabilities, such as crew leadership for simple shifts with priorities determined by the project manager
Strong organizational and time management skills
Independent worker with strong task ownership skills and ability to monitor your own time and meet project schedule and budget expectations.
Team player interested in developing more junior staff, supporting peers, and networking with and learning from senior biologists.
Strong professional communication skills, including excellent technical writing skills for a variety of audiences using established reporting templates
Accreditation or eligibility for accreditation with the College of Applied Biology as a Registered Professional Biologist, or equivalent accreditation
Education and Experience
B.Sc. in a biological or environmental field plus at least two years of work experience. OR M.Sc. In a relevant field plus at least one year of work experience.
Eligibility for Registered Professional Biologist designation with the College of Applied Biology.
Familiarity with federal and provincial legislation, such as the Fisheries Act and the Water Sustainability Act.

Intermediate First Aid and Transportation Endorsement certificate
UTV training; Pleasure Craft Operator Card
Swiftwater Rescue Technician level 1

Stantec British Columbia's standard work week is 37.5 hours. This position is eligible for overtime in the office and field for hours worked in accordance with British Columbia's labour laws.
Our typical office environment involves working with computers and remaining relatively sedentary. Stantec offers a flexible work arrangement for desk-based tasks including working from Stantec office locations, working from home, or a mix depending on the situation. Field work may include exposure to inclement weather, and travel through rough and remote terrain, while carrying equipment.

Pay Range:
Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 62,000.00 - Max Salary $ 89,900.00
Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 65,700.00 - Max Salary $ 95,300.00
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
