Your Opportunity
We have an immediate opening for an experienced Professional Geotechnical Engineer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in challenging and diverse geotechnical engineering projects across a variety of sectors including major infrastructure projects in a multi-discipline team environment. Other project types include industrial developments, building and land developments, civil infrastructure, pipelines and midstream facilities, mining infrastructure, flood mitigation infrastructure, geohazards evaluation, landslide and slope mitigation, and renewable energy developments. Working in one of our Oregon or Washington offices, you will have the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams and our geotechnical, geohazard, geomorphology, and materials testing experts across the US and Canada. This role will allow you to leverage your geotechnical engineering experience and take on increased responsibility while receiving senior mentorship from industry leading experts. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and with small and large teams to apply critical thinking skills to solve technical issues and develop project-specific solutions. The position will require travel to project sites and will provide stimulating career growth opportunities.
Your Key Responsibilities
Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
Work in conjunction with engineers, geologists, and scientists to solve project challenges, leading design tasks and overseeing design calculations as required.
Work on a variety of small to large projects spanning from transportation, residential, commercial, and industrial developments as well as linear corridors and geohazard work
Mentor, coach, and train less experienced professionals as required, encouraging growth and succession within the team.
Manage projects and tasks with the assistance of 1 to 10 engineers.
Select criteria for planning, design, and construction of geotechnical engineering projects for all sectors.
Assist with feasibility studies by conducting research to assess challenges and develop solutions.
Conduct and supervise staff performing numerical analysis using programs such as FLAC, PLAXIS, Phase2, SEEP/W and SLOPE/W.
Develop familiarity with regulatory agency requirements, technical design standards, and industry standards and guidelines.
Lead the preparation of and take responsibility for technical reports including geotechnical data reports, geotechnical baseline reports, field reports, technical memoranda, computation packages, feasibility reports, and design and evaluation reports.
Contribute to design drawings and specifications for various levels of design (e.g. 30%, 60%, 90%, 100% design).
Participate in professional development and training activities.
Lead by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including health & safety, risk management, project management, and quality management.
Grow internal and external networks to further enhance Stantec reputation and identify additional talent to join our team.
Mentor and train future leaders, including development of succession plans for key positions.
Promote collaboration and teamwork across business lines and geographies.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Working knowledge of the principles of geotechnical engineering.
Willing and able to travel to project sites regionally and occasionally nationally.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
Understanding of multi-disciplinary design teams with experience of collaborating across projects
Ability to thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment
Strong technical skills are a must and experience serving on a technical board is an asset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Team building skills are essential for the candidate to meet the expectations of this position
Results-oriented individual who has demonstrated enthusiasm and possesses a high degree of integrity
Strong problem solving skills
Demonstrated ability and desire to work with and contribute to a larger team
Previous leadership or people management experience is highly desirable
Must have a valid driver’s license (with REAL ID) and good driving record.
Education and Experience
8 to 12 years' work experience in geotechnical engineering.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university; Master’s preferred.
Oregon and/or Washington professional engineer license preferred, or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA areas - Min Salary $ 126,400.00 - Max Salary $ 189,600.00
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
