Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking Senior Process Engineers – Water Treatment to work independently on a variety of complex projects and as a team lead on larger projects. You will lead, evaluate, select, specify, and engineer certain processes or methodologies or products for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks, which may include simulations, calculations, and field work. The projects that a Senior Engineer may be assigned to may have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge.
Experience should include water and steam specialty developing design specs for Thermal in-situ SAGD facilities, Heavy oil processing, and/or mineable oil sands. This position reports to the Process Engineering Department Manager.
Your Key Responsibilities
Engineering design activities for projects of various sizes and complexities. Delegation to Intermediate and Junior Process Engineers may be required, as well as mentoring, assistance to the same and review of their deliverables. Peer review of deliverables created by other intermediate to senior-level engineers may also be required.
Provide strong technical knowledge and leadership to design, execute, and validate all process engineering deliverables and tasks required for heavy oil/SAGD projects.
Lead the delivery of process engineering requirements to conduct concept design studies and feasibility studies, pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed engineering design.
Complete tasks in a timely, thorough, and organized manner. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: - Development and review of process simulations using HYSYS and develop heat and material balances.
Development and review of engineering drawings such as PFDs and P&IDs.
Generation and documentation of hydraulic analysis results and study reports.
Performing adequacy checks and evaluation of new and/or existing equipment.
Sizing calculations for equipment, lines, and instrumentation.
Documentation of calculations performed.
Generation of documents such as heat & material balance tables, line designation tables, PSV lists, SDK/cause and effect diagrams, set point lists, car seal lists, operating philosophies, equipment datasheets, and instrumentation datasheets.
Participate in PHAs (HAZIDs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, and other critical safety reviews)
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to deliver quality products to our clients.
Client interface – discussion and presentations are a mandatory requirement.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Knowledge of process engineering design of process systems and plants for production of high-purity industrial water, industrial wastewater treatment, heavy-oil water treatment, steam production of Thermal SAGD / oil sands facilities and oil & gas facilities.
Experience in process water chemistry, including modelling of water treatment.
Any experience and exposure to energy transition / renewable energy (carbon capture, hydrogen, biofuels, biogas, etc.) studies and projects would be an advantage.
Strong knowledge of simulation software Aspen HYSYS is a must, and familiarity with Promax, HYSYS Dynamics, Aspen Plus, Symmetry (VMGSim), AFT-Fathom and Impulse, etc. will be an added advantage.
Experience in flaring simulations using Aspen Flare Analyzer.
Strong experience with the development, interpretation, and checking of PFDs, P&IDs and other process deliverables. Ability to read piping isometrics and piping plans.
Strong experience in reviewing vendor information and generating TBE.
Very proficient with process calculations, and extremely proficient with Microsoft Excel.
Comprehensive knowledge of design guidelines (API standards, AER directives, etc.).
Experience working with electronic markup software, such as Bluebeam, would be an asset.
Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
Excellent and strong oral and written communication skills.
Requires a superior understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 15-20 years of experience, with an EPC background.
Registration with APEGA as a P.Eng. is required, registration in other jurisdictions is an asset.
As a senior member of the team, an in office presence will be required. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
