Your Opportunity

The role of a Senior Technical Advisor of urban water resources and distribution planning is to assist our project managers and process engineers and designers on a variety of design challenges and to provide troubleshooting, solution development and quality review. The opportunity would consist of a casual contract for as-required services, where such services would be engaged by project delivery teams. It is understood that the role would be primarily remote but may include in-person meetings and/or site visits.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and oversight on long‑range planning projects for major water and wastewater infrastructure programs

  • Oversee development, calibration, and application of hydraulic models for municipal systems, act as technical authority for potable water modeling

  • Direct master planning, environmental assessments, and infrastructure condition assessments

  • Provide technical oversight, peer review, and quality assurance for project deliverables

  • Develop and evaluate solutions for storage, pumping, transmission, and treatment facilities; provide technical support for hydraulic design (including pumping stations, transmission mains, forcemains, trunk sewers, and storage facilities)

  • Guide multidisciplinary teams through design, tendering, construction, and commissioning; participate in design workshops requiring hydraulic design support

  • Manage projects and/or tasks, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation

  • Advise on regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and contingency planning

  • Mentor staff and clients in modeling software and technical protocols

  • Engage with senior staff of municipal clients to develop and foster client relationships

  • Participate in stakeholder and governance meetings; build consensus on strategies

  • Assist with business development activities, including writing proposals and supporting client pursuits

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients, contractors, equipment suppliers/vendors, funding agencies and reviewing agencies; to deliver technical presentations in public forums in conferences and technical symposia.

  • Possesses excellent time-management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and available resources.

  • Thorough understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, engineering, or related technical discipline.

  • Experience: Minimum 20 years’ relevant professional experience

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario (PEO)

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
