Our Water Division is experiencing significant growth, presenting the opportunity for a Dams Engineer based in our Sydney office. This position is crucial for supporting ongoing and new projects in the dams and hydropower market with a focus on New South Wales dams while providing support to the broader dams and hydropower team throughout Australia and overseas.
About the role:
As a Dams Engineer, the role is integral to the contribution of the Stantec business goals by providing technical skills in the specialist area of dams engineering. Working alongside and reporting into the broader dams and hydropower team, which is managed nationally and not state-wise like some of our competitors, not only will you be mentored and given the opportunity to flourish, you will also provide valuable support to the project manager/team leader to ensure that project outcomes meet both the client and Stantec expectations.
Whilst all applications will be accepted, Stantec is keen to hear from interested individuals with 3 to 6 years’ experience who are wanting to expand their career with a bunch of highly reputable professionals in the dams space.
What does a day in the life of a Dams Engineer looks like?
Undertake a range of duties in carrying out designs and studies for civil and dams engineering projects to provide high-level technical service to internal and external clients Conduct site surveys, data gathering/analysis, field investigations and feasibility studies for proposed projects
Produce calculations, specifications and drawings to ensure that technical design will provide the appropriate solution
Maintain communication and develop ongoing contacts with clients as required
Contribute to proposal and bid development to support business development activities, including preparing proposal material as required
Complete all work in line with Stantec Core Values and in accordance with the Stantec Quality, Safety & Environment Systems and Project Quality Procedures
Minimise and control risk by the commitment to the Stantec Quality, Health & Safety programmes and ensuring proactive use of our project management systems
Other duties as reasonably required
To be successful for this role you'll present:
Tertiary qualification in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent)
Professional working experience, ideally with a focus on dam safety and/or dam engineering.
Solid report writing with the ability to tell a compelling story.
Proficient skills of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
The ability to apply professional concepts and expand skills while performing various phases of engineering work related to water infrastructure, in particular dams and hydropower.
A desire to engage in all facets of dam engineering, for a range of dam types.
Development into a key member of the dams team, supporting colleagues in project related work.

A competitive salary of $85000 to $95,000 based on experience.
