Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking a Bridge Engineering Intern (EIT) to join our transportation team based in Hamilton, London, or Waterloo. In this position you’ll be an active member of our team working on small to large-scale multi-disciplinary projects under the guidance and supervision of a Professional Bridge Engineer. Working in our Hamilton office, you will be given the opportunity to further develop your skills in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering structural systems for a variety of transportation projects, anything from highways to rail.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the structural engineering portion of various highway, transit, and rail projects through all phases from proposal preparation, project kick-off, preliminary design, detailed design, tendering, construction, and contract administration

  • Assist with development of design plans, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates

  • Prepare, check and deliver engineering calculations, reports and technical studies

  • Regular collaboration with other transportation design professionals and teams to complete projects

  • Undertake culvert and bridge inspections to assess condition

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong understanding of structural engineering design concepts

  • Experience with structural modeling and design software, such as CSiBridge or equivalent

  • Working knowledge of CAD software and collaborative tools such as Autodesk or BlueBeam

  • Basic knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and MTO design manuals and standards

  • Familiarity with MTO design requirements and specifications is an asset

  • Effective communication skills, including experience in report and proposal preparation

  • Experience in structural inspection, condition surveys, and construction supervision is an asset

Education and Experience

  • University degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in the field of structural design.

  • 0 – 4 years of related work experience. Previous bridge-related work experience is an asset.

  • Registered or working toward Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.)

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
