Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Substation Engineering Manager to join our talented and growing team across western Canada. Bringing a solid background in electrical utility engineering with particular focus on substation design and layout, the Engineering Manager leads a diverse team of engineers, designers, technologists and drafters working on a variety of projects for utilities in British Columbia, Alberta, and beyond. The Engineering Manager is comfortable discussing and leading all disciplines associated with substation design and will contribute with their own design expertise to electrical design work. You will bring prior experience in leading, mentoring and developing high motivated team members to find the best solutions to design challenges and project tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership, development, and mentoring to the diverse substation team located throughout Western Canada.
Work closely with the Substation Team Leads and the overall Power Delivery department leadership on staffing plans, staff assignments and workload forecasting. Coordinate with other Stantec Power offices on work sharing and cross-office project support.
Build a solid network across the Stantec Energy and Resources business line with your peer engineering leaders and become a go-to person for support on substation design work and project deliverables.
Utilize your advanced skills in substation design and layout engineering to work on substation designs as part of a project team, or by leading design work. Your focus should be on substation layouts for outdoor and indoor substations, prior experience with both greenfield and brownfield substation projects will be advantageous.
Lead or assist estimates and proposal work, both for complex MSAs and individual proposals.
Guide the preparation of all relevant drawing and drafting work, coordinate equipment selection and review vendor specifications
Conduct checks and quality reviews for design packages in accordance with Stantec’s project delivery framework.
Provide support during construction and guide team members through construction phase and associated engineering support.
Develop and maintain relationships with key engineering representatives in client organizations.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Solid understanding of the design requirements and standards for various utilities across Canada.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) through applicable provincial governing body(s).
Effective Interpersonal Skills – strong written and verbal skills are a must to ensure clear communication between team members, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams of engineering and design staff working on utility projects, preferably substation design.
Adapted to leading teams working from various locations, both remote and local.
Experienced in people leadership and driven to help others succeed in their careers.
Prior experience in project management
Solid experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD would be an asset.
Excellent Personal Computing Skills, including the Microsoft Office suite.
Hold valid Driver’s License.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (Power System preferred).
Minimum of 12 to 15 years of direct detail design experience in HV Substations for utilities in North America.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$136,300.00 - $204,500.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
