Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a water and wastewater focused process engineer to join our team in the Windsor, Ontario Office. The Windsor Office support projects throughout southwestern Ontario and work with brilliant specialists from across our North American operations.

Within this position, you can leverage the process engineering and water design knowledge gained through your education and early career. Under the guidance of our senior engineering staff, you will work on water and wastewater treatment and conveyance projects in a supporting capacity. At a high level your tasks may include the development of engineering and financial calculations, participating in the design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, engineering calculations, technical reports, providing proposal support, and independent field work. The projects that may be assigned are broad, varied, and diverse in scope, and often require seamlessly working with a diverse project team.

We are looking for a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, who can quickly get up to speed and grow into the role. It is expected that you have obtained your professional engineering designation or have the ability to obtain within 12 months. Many of the challenges we tackle for our clients are complex and multi-faceted, requiring comprehensive analytical skills often gained through rigorous academic study. Although not a requirement, advanced degrees in engineering and business administration are highly desired.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and uphold Stantec’s Health and Safety culture, ensuring all project activities align with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead and manage multiple simultaneous projects with competing deadlines, providing timely concise updates to supervisory staff and proactively identifying risks impacting scope, schedule or budget.

  • Contribute to the development of conceptual design basis reports, engineering assessments, data analysis and design calculations for water and wastewater projects.

  • Prepare detailed technical analyses and evaluations that support the planning, design, or optimization of water and wastewater treatment facilities and related infrastructure.

  • Develop and review construction specifications, tender documents, and regulatory approval submissions.

  • Support and oversee the preparation of engineering calculations, design drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents ensuring alignment with project requirements.

  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with clients, vendors, consultants, and regulatory authorities, serving as a reliable technical point of contact throughout project execution.

  • Conduct occasional site visits to support proposals, project development, construction oversight, and business development initiatives.

  • Review and inspect projects during construction, monitoring contractor performance, contractual conformance, progress, quality, and alignment with cost and schedule expectations.

  • Manage contract administration activities, including reviewing contractor submissions, evaluating change requests, supporting claims resolutions, tracking contract deliverables, and coordinating communication stakeholders.

  • Support the project manager or lead engineer in preparing proposals, technical reports, scopes of work, and fee estimates, incorporating risk, schedule, and contract considerations.

  • Assist project technical leads in managing project deliverables and schedule, ensuring that scope budget and contractual obligations are met.

  • Work effectively in a flexible office environment, including in-office work, remote work-from-home settings and travel to project sites as needed.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment commonly used in water/wastewater facilities (e.g., pumps, blowers, mixers, chemical feed systems, valves, and piping systems) Ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams—including process, mechanical, civil, electrical, and I&C engineers—to contribute to integrated design solutions.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and support adherence to budgets and schedules.

  • Demonstrated engineering judgment and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify design challenges and propose practical solutions.

  • Clear grasp of engineering concepts and the ability to translate technical idea into drawings, specifications or written communication for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Effective communication and coordination skills, with the ability to discuss project issues professionally with the contractor, project team and clients.

  • Strong presentation, technical writing, and interpersonal skills, supporting participation in design reviews, client meetings, and construction discussions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, or process modeling software (e.g., BioWin, GPS‑ X, AFT Fathom) is considered an asset.

  • Holds a valid Ontario Class G drivers’ license.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Process, Environmental, or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution or similar education with relevant experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of water and wastewater engineering related work experience.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain within 12 months is preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and sitting at a desk. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Our group operates under a hybrid work strategy with work expectations being a combination of work from home and in-office support. Applicants for this role will be expected to spend a majority of their work week on projects within the Windsor Ontario geography but may be located remotely if willing to travel.

Pay Range:

• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$89,200.00 - $129,300.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
