Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Construction Manager to support water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the Greater Toronto Area. In this role, you will help ensure that multiple projects meet cost, schedule, and quality expectations while providing exceptional client service.
As the Construction Manager for Stantec, you will oversee contractors and work closely with Stantec Project Managers, design teams, and the client’s project and operations staff. You will lead a team of Stantec Contract Administrators and Inspectors that will be dedicated to specific projects within a project or program. The projects include upgrade, replacement and installation of new sewers, culverts, outfalls, roadway improvements, and other heavy civil works.
The Construction Manager plays a key role in coordinating work to minimize impacts in the build environment, in both residential and commercial areas. The Construction Manager will need to build strong relationships with client staff in administering construction contracts, ensuring successful project delivery with both internal and external partners.
Your Key Responsibilities
Lead a team of Contract Administrators and Inspectors to perform to the best of their abilities, including providing guidance and mentorship as required.
Perform stakeholder management, provide overall guidance for successful delivery of the project or program.
Implement project controls for distribution and record keeping of construction drawings, construction contract correspondence, technical records, and other project documents.
Monitor and document contractor’s work for compliance with project safety standards.
Communicates with and makes recommendations to the Project Manager, design professionals, client, owner, developer, or contractor, but does not direct the means or methods of construction.
Provides the Project Manager with updates on project progress or delays to clients, design professionals, and/or contractors.
Reviews and evaluates plans and specifications to ensure designs are practical for construction.
Review shop drawings and submittals.
Partake in regular (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.) construction meetings with contractors, owners and stakeholders, led by the Contract Administrators.
Oversee that monthly or semi-monthly payment requests are issued in accordance with requirements and assist where necessary.
Oversee that the preparation and issuing of change orders on contracts are completed in accordance with the contract and in a timely fashion, and assist where necessary.
Conduct field evaluations and assessments as required.
Manages deadlines, prioritizes assignments, and prepares final documentation for the closeout process.
Assists in obtaining necessary permits and licenses for the timely opening of the site.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Requires advanced knowledge of local, provincial, and federal codes and specifications, construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
Ability to effectively discuss project issues with contractors, project team, and clients, including the ability to resolve conflict situations.
Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the project team, obtaining and sharing necessary information.
Strong organizational skills and understanding of task assignments and schedule.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
Working knowledge of critical path method scheduling.
Must be able to work cooperatively and efficiently in a team setting.
Must be detailed oriented.
Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related field or a two- or three-year college diploma in civil engineering technology, or equivalent.
Minimum of 15 years of combined experience in municipal infrastructure design and construction management.
Minimum 10 years of combined experience in construction project management and contract administration, which may include up to 5 years as a site inspector, on project of similar size, scope and complexity to water/wastewater treatment facilities or pumping stations
Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction contract administration on projects of a similar, size scope and complexity conveyance, water/wastewater treatment facilities or pumping stations.
Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising a team during the construction phase of projects.
The position will work in both a field and office setting. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Must be available to travel for out-of-town projects when needed.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$111,700.00 - $167,600.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
