Your Opportunity
Our Calgary studio is seeking a full-time, entry-level Landscape Architectural Technologist (LAT) to join our Planning and Landscape Architecture team. This role supports the delivery of high-quality, design-led landscape projects from early design through construction, while building strong technical and professional foundations through mentorship and hands-on experience.
Working closely with landscape architects, technologists, engineers, and multidisciplinary project teams, you will support the translation of design intent into clear, accurate, and buildable documentation while developing problem-solving skills across project delivery.
Your Key Responsibilities
This role is primarily office-based with opportunities for site and field exposure as experience grows
Support landscape architecture projects across multiple phases, including schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration
Assist with the preparation of design development and construction drawings, details, and coordinated drawing sets under the guidance of senior team members
Assist in translating design concepts into technically sound, accurate, and buildable documentation
Support basic conceptual design tasks, such as preliminary layouts, material references, and planting plans
Coordinate drawings with internal teams and external consultants, incorporating background information such as surveys and civil drawings
Maintain organized CAD files and project documentation in accordance with firm standards and best practices
Participate in project meetings, assisting with agendas, meeting minutes, and follow-up items
Support basic construction administration activities, including tracking shop drawings, RFIs, and changes
Apply municipal standards, regulatory requirements, and project guidelines to technical work with mentorship and direction

While not required at this time, the successful candidate will be supported to grow into the following areas:
Assist with presentation materials, design narratives, and basic technical reports
Participate in site visits, field reviews, and inspections to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress
Support deficiency tracking, site review reports, record drawings, and project close-out documentation
Assist with quantity take-offs and introductory cost estimating tasks
Support coordination with municipal authorities for submissions, reviews, and approvals
Contribute to digital workflows, including 3D models, diagrams, renderings, and visualization tools
Contribute ideas, ask questions, and learn from a collaborative team environment that values mentorship, curiosity, and professional development
Build confidence working in both office and field environments
Your Capabilities & Credentials
Technical & Software Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D, with the ability to work within established CAD standards
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
Familiarity with LandFX and Bluebeam considered an asset
Professional & Collaborative Skills
Ability to interpret design intent and support the development of clear, accurate drawings
Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills
Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment
Organized, detail-oriented, and motivated to produce high-quality work
Strong interest in learning through mentorship, project collaboration and developing technical skills
Assets for Future Growth
Experience with SketchUp, Revit, Rhino, BIM360, visualization, or digital collaboration tools
Ability to participate in office-based work and supervised on-site field activities, as required
Interest in gaining hands-on experience through site visits and construction observation
Interest in professional development and expanding technical knowledge
Eligibility for membership with the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA)
This role provides a foundation for progression into intermediate-level technologist responsibilities over time
Education & Experience
Diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology or a Diploma in a related design field, with equivalent practical experience
Entry-level position suitable for candidates with 1–2 years of related experience, including recent graduates with landscape focused education.
Experience gained through co-op placements, internships, summer employment, or part-time roles is valued
Previous exposure to landscape construction, site inspections, or field documentation is considered an asset but not required
Typical office environment includes working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. We have a hybrid work environment, meaning there is a balance between working at the office and at home.

Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
