Join a Top 10 global design firm in our Energy and Industrial Infrastructure practice, where we deliver electrical engineering solutions for complex power and energy systems across North America. Our team supports a diverse portfolio of projects including renewable energy facilities, battery energy storage systems (BESS), water and wastewater treatment plants, hydrogen fueling stations, EV charging infrastructure, and utility and industrial power systems.

Our practice focuses on designing reliable, resilient, and sustainable electrical infrastructure that supports critical industrial processes and the evolving energy landscape. We work closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and technical specialists to develop innovative solutions for complex infrastructure projects. Collaboration is central to our approach, as electrical engineers coordinate closely with civil, structural, mechanical, and process disciplines to deliver integrated and constructible designs for our clients.

Our Summer Internship Program begins May 2026 and runs through August 2026. Interns will collaborate across our interdisciplinary Energy and Resources practice and gain exposure to a wide range of electrical power and infrastructure projects.

We are seeking motivated interns who possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills and who are interested in working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment. Successful interns will demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn while supporting project teams in the development of electrical infrastructure solutions for complex industrial and energy facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts basic interpretation of drawings, codes, standards, and technical specifications applicable to electrical infrastructure and industrial facilities.

  • Assists with electrical design tasks using engineering and modeling tools to support the development of power system layouts, equipment arrangements, and electrical distribution systems under the direction of senior staff.

  • Performs basic calculations and layouts to support the analysis and design of electrical system components such as feeders, equipment connections, grounding systems, and electrical distribution infrastructure.

  • Works with project managers and technical design staff to prepare and revise engineering documentation in various project phases including site plans, equipment layouts, one-line diagrams, conduit and cable routing plans, details, and supporting calculations.

  • Creates and maintains electronic design files in compliance with Stantec and client standards.

  • Converts redline markups into updated drawing and document deliverables.

  • Assists with organizing, publishing, and managing drawing sets and project documentation.

  • Maintains drawing revisions and supports document control throughout the design process.

Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Ability to perform basic calculations and demonstrate a foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles.

  • Basic experience with drafting and modeling software (Autodesk AutoCAD) preferred.

  • Basic experience with design and modeling software (Autodesk Revit) preferred.

  • Basic understanding of electrical drawings including site plans, one-line diagrams, equipment layouts, and electrical details.

  • Familiarity with electrical power distribution systems and infrastructure design within industrial, utility, or energy facilities is preferred.

  • Basic experience with power system analysis software (such as ETAP, SKM, or similar) is preferred but not required.

  • Working knowledge of CAD-based design workflows and exposure to Building Information Modeling (BIM) concepts preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, for basic calculations and data organization.

  • Experience reviewing or managing PDF drawing sets using tools such as Bluebeam or similar software is preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited degree program for Engineering

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Previous internship or co-op experience is a plus

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:

• $23.47 - $34.50 Hourly

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
