Boise, ID, USA
Posted on Mar 26, 2026

Many of the world’s top engineers and scientists come together in our Water business at Stantec because they view a community’s interaction with water a bit differently—as a single holistic system, rather than unconnected networks divided by jurisdictional boundaries. Working throughout the hydrologic cycle, we are delivering sustainable solutions to make sure water is where it should be and available when needed. Our experts guide our work with scientific rigor, an innovative spirit, and a vision for growth. Every day, we help communities improve, reuse, and protect this precious resource for future generations. By 2025 we’re hiring 2,000 people throughout the U.S. (like you) to join our team. Grow with us, H2O+U.

Your Opportunity

Our Boise, Idaho office is seeking a Process Mechanical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our multi-disciplinary team of water professionals. As a Process Mechanical EIT, you will work in a supportive team environment and have exposure to water infrastructure design projects that include water and wastewater treatment plants and conveyance systems. You may also be involved in planning, design, and construction of critical infrastructure projects, including new pump stations and rehabilitation and upgrades of existing water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with local and virtual project teams and senior project staff to produce high quality work products for our water and wastewater clients with a moderate level of guidance. As such, tasks may include performing engineering calculations, preparing detailed design drawings and specifications, preparing planning and technical engineering reports, and designing pipelines, pump stations, and treatment processes. All tasks will be performed under the supervision of a professional engineer. Other responsibilities include:

  • Perform site visits, condition assessments, and observe startup operations, as necessary.

  • Continually acquire new knowledge of and experience with a variety of innovative technologies, treatment approaches, and design tools.

  • Develop ability to identify resources required to complete projects or assignments.

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and adapt to project changes.

  • Develop your professional network within the water industry through interactions with clients, regulatory agencies, other consulting firms, and industry organizations.

As you gain experience, you will have the opportunity to contribute to more complex assignments and responsibilities, which may include guiding less experienced staff and interns. This progressive involvement will help you build a strong foundation in process engineering and prepare you for future leadership roles within our team.

Typical office environment will be working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts of process/mechanical engineering or civil/environmental engineering.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Bluebeam Revu.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple project assignments, prioritize, and take direction.

  • Ability to prepare complete, concise, and organized engineering studies, designs, and specifications.

  • Willingness and ability to perform field work, as needed, within the Boise area and Pacific Northwest.

Education and Experience

  • BS degree in civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering, or related field, required.

  • MS degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field, preferred.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required, or ability to achieve within 1 year.

  • 2-5 years of experience in the planning or design of water, wastewater, or related infrastructure.
