Target’s Global UX team is a group of design, content, research, and accessibility practitioners and experts, with a passion for improving and innovating our digital experiences for Target’s guests, team members, and partners. Here, we pride ourselves on designing tangible, inspiring, and impactful solutions that serve all aspects of our business– and being a part of the team means you will play a critical role for Target’s digital experience by increasing ease, simplicity, value, and delight for every touchpoint.
About the role:
As Senior Content Designer on agentic and AI shopping experiences, you’ll help shape how Target guests discover, get inspired, and shop through agentic UX across digital touchpoints. You will define the content and language systems that support our guests throughout their journey while also being a voice for emerging agentic content design practices.
Thinking with systems over process, you’ll define how language, conversational design, prompt systems, feedback loops, and context engineering work together across shopping flows to create experiences that feel unmistakably Target. Your content frameworks don’t just amplify voice, clarity, and standards — they are flexible systems that evolve with new AI capabilities and support personalized, product experiences at scale.
This role will explore new ways of working in a cross-functional setting, collaborating with designers, product managers, engineers, researchers, data analysts, accessibility partners and AI teams/practitioners. You'll establish standards and governance, keeping content excellence at the center of workflows and rapidly evolving AI tools. At the same time, you’ll contribute to the broader content design practice — helping establish the foundation for content design-led agentic work and its shared principles. You will also share and educate findings and learnings for how we approach conversational and AI-assisted experiences across partners and teams.
Responsibilities:
Develop content design approaches for AI-assisted and agentic shopping experiences across Target digital touchpoints, including conversational shop flows, discovery/inspiration, recommendations, personalization and checkout journeys.
Explore and share how we create and deploy clear, helpful, and human content that balances guest needs, business goals, and brand voice across AI systems.
Create content artifacts for agentic content design, including but not limited to playbooks, content models, systems instructions, prompting strategy, and conversational guidelines.
Apply scalable frameworks and reusable guidance that help teams build coherent, high-quality agentic experiences across surfaces and shopping contexts.
Partner closely with product design, product management, engineering, data science, research, and accessibility to shape the behavior and language of AI-powered features from concept through launch and iteration.
Translate complex shopping needs, ambiguous product requirements, and emerging technologies into clear interaction models and content strategies.
Use guest insights, qualitative research, experimentation, and performance data to inform overall content strategy, as it relates to the ecosystem.
Contribute to standards, principles, and best practices for AI and conversational content design within Target, helping raise quality and consistency across teams.
Participate in critiques, workshops, and cross-functional working sessions, and help grow the practice of content design through influence, craft, and systems thinking.
Contribute to a culture of human-centered practice within UX, product, and engineering teams, with a focus on belonging, accessibility, and authenticity for all Target guests.
About you:
4+ years of content design, UX writing, conversation design, or related experience designing digital product experiences
Demonstrated fundamentals and understanding of conversational design and AI/agentic-powered content design, including but not limited to prompt/context engineering, systems governance, output grading, modeling, and more
Experience with content design for complex product areas and multi-step journeys where language plays a critical role in helping users understand, decide, and act
Portfolio showing systems thinking, content strategy, and UX craft across end-to-end experiences
Experience building or contributing to scalable frameworks, principles, or standards that improve content quality across products or teams
Excellent problem-solving skills and comfort navigating emerging technologies, ambiguity, and rapid iteration
Experience partnering and articulating content strategy with designers, researchers, engineers, product managers, and data scientists throughout the product lifecycle
Familiarity and understanding of prototyping using AI tools like Figma Make, Custom GPTs, Codex, and Claude Code
