About the role

Our Stores UX team sits at the intersection of digital products and the in-store experience, designing solutions that enable our guests to discover the joy of shopping while empowering store team members and leaders to deliver exceptional service. We believe great design makes work easier, shopping more joyful, and every interaction more meaningful.

As a Senior UX Designer on the Stores UX team, you will help shape the future of the Target in-store experience by designing solutions that connect guest needs with the operational realities of our stores. You'll tackle complex, ambiguous problems that span digital and physical experiences, creating intuitive, scalable solutions that simultaneously spark joy and ease for guests, team members and store leaders.

In this role, you'll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Store Operations, and business leaders to deeply understand user needs, define opportunities, and deliver thoughtful experiences from strategy through execution. You'll balance human-centered design with operational excellence, using research, data, and systems thinking to influence product direction and elevate the quality of our experiences.

As an Senior designer, you'll contribute to large, cross-functional initiatives while helping raise the quality of design across the organization through mentorship, collaboration, and advocacy for UX best practices. You'll be expected to navigate ambiguity, influence without authority, and bring clarity to complex challenges that impact guests, team members, and the business.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the full design process, from early discovery and strategic approach to ideation, design, testing asset delivery and production with engineers

  • Lead and contribute craft-specific work to large, complex projects with cross-team impact

  • Demonstrate strategic problem-solving, systems thinking, and collaboration skills

  • Translate ambiguous business and user problems into clear design opportunities

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Store Operations, and other cross-functional stakeholders to shape product strategy and define meaningful user outcomes.

  • Create high-quality design artifacts—including journey maps, service blueprints, information architecture, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and production-ready designs—that effectively communicate ideas, at the right time

  • Contribute to and influence design systems, interaction patterns, and UX standards that create consistent, scalable experiences across the Stores ecosystem.

  • Champion inclusive, accessible, and human-centered design practices

  • Elevate the craft of UX by mentoring peers, providing thoughtful design critique, sharing best practices, and contributing to a strong design culture.

  • Communicate design rationale and user insights effectively to diverse audiences, influencing decisions through storytelling, evidence, and collaboration.

  • Demonstrated ability to explore and apply emerging technologies, including AI, to solve user and business problems, balancing innovation with practicality and user needs

About you

  • 4+ years of relevant product design experience with demonstrated ownership of complex UX initiatives

  • You lean into complex problems, challenge the status quo, and seek to understand the ‘why’ behind human behavior and their mindsets

  • Proven ability to lead design work through ambiguity, balancing user needs, operational realities, technical constraints, and business goals

  • Intermediate skills in UX and product design, as well as structuring and planning work, and owning the design process

  • Proficiency in prototyping tools (i.e., Figma)

  • Demonstrated ability to explore and apply emerging technologies, including AI, to solve user and business problems, balancing innovation with practicality and user needs

  • Demonstrated strategic problem-solving, systems thinking, and collaboration skills

  • Proven ability to effectively use data and insights to set your direction and communicate your approach

  • You value outcomes and strive toward design that is welcoming, inspiring, and clear

  • You understand how design connects to, serves, and improves business outcomes

  • Exhibit a growth mindset

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
