Job Description:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
CUSTOMER
- Provides consistent and sound advice, clearly and concisely communicating legal issues and options to business partners based on strong business knowledge
- Executes with speed and impact by displaying an interest in, and developing an understanding of, business partners' business needs and concerns
- Listens closely and effectively, asking clear and appropriate follow-up questions, and providing direct feedback and answers
- Identifies actions that may not align to TD's risk appetite and counsels business partners on potential implications
- Escalates issues as appropriate
- Maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders and negotiates business solutions in consideration of broader enterprise implications
- Exercises discretion in managing correspondence, information and all matters of confidentiality
- Open to innovations and working through change
SHAREHOLDER
- Protects the interests of the organization – identifies and manages risks, and manages the prompt and thorough resolution of escalated non-standard, high risk issues
- Conducts internal and external research projects; supports the development/ delivery of presentations/communications to management or broader audience
- Actively manages relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensures alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
- Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assesses potential impacts
- Listens to the business to understand objections or positions and translates insights into legal reccomendations

- Participates fully as a member of the team, values others' opinions, supports a positive work environment
- Provides thought leadership and/ or industry knowledge for own area of expertise and participates in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit

BREADTH & DEPTH
- Expert level professional role requiring in-depth knowledge / expertise in own domain / field of specialty and working knowledge of broader related areas
- Provide expertise within own area of responsibility and assigned projects
- Principle accountability areas include advice, counsel, influence, relationships and special projects
- Key relationships are employees and some management
- Understand the industry, competition and the factors that differentiate the organization
- Integrates a broader organizational understanding into advice and solutions within own area
- Impacts a range of functional programs and operations across own and related teams
- Solves complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables, including consultation with multiple stakeholders
- Uses advanced methods to contribute to new solutions and recommend standards against which others will operate
- Interprets guidelines, standards, policies and analyzes to inform decision making at senior levels
- Builds stakeholder alignment in leading projects and activities; may provide process and subject matter advice at senior levels
- Works independently as the senior technical lead and guides others within area of expertise
- Generally reports to a Managing Counsel
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Undergraduate degree or relevant professional certifications, designations, or equivalent required (JD/LLB)
- Strongears relevant experience
