The Senior Manager, Advanced Analytics leads a specialized team of data professionals varying in size and complexity that are responsible for aiding to drive changes and improvement in business practices through advanced analytics. This role manages the overall Advanced Analytics team or function for a key business which may include Data Modelers and/or Data Scientist roles. This role may also oversee the development of statistical models, data mining and analytic solutions.
The Model Validation (MV) group in Enterprise Risk, Risk Management is responsible for the independent validation and approval of all analytical models used for pricing, hedging and risk and capital evaluation of financial products and portfolios of financial products.
The position reports to AVP, TBSM / Finance / TDAM/TDI Model Validation group. Detailed accountabilities include:
- Lead a team of quantitative professionals to validate the TBSM Integration /Aggregation models for IRRBB reporting (xFP metrics, EVE and NII), Hedge Accounting (HA) reporting, and Funds Transfer Pricing (FTPs)
- Work with team to develop an effective and efficient validation testing plan based on structure / design of different aggregation system and complete validation in time to support various business initiatives and regulators' i.e. Fed's, OCC, OSFI, and EBA) requirements.
- Supervise team's validation work to ensure capture all material & critical model limitations and execution / implementation accuracy of the validation testing.
- Support team to have an effective communication with different stakeholders from 1st line and in-time solve model limitations / issues to meet validation lead time target.
- Work with team to deliver high quality model validation reports with adequate information and justification to support validation conclusions and Audit / regulator review / assessment of validation process and validation analysis.
- Recommend the approval of the models or other corrective actions based on the independent vetting and validation.
- Maintain full professional knowledge of techniques and developments in the quantitative analysis in IRRBB, and HA, and share knowledge with business partners and senior management.
- Assume a leadership role in developing standards and procedures for vetting and validation that are compliant with the Bank’s internal Model Risk Policy, adhere with industry best practices, and meet regulatory requirements.
- Lead and develop internal team.
- Ensure performance objectives are set for internal staff and that performance feedback is provided on a regular basis.
- Communicate group objectives and strategies and align team activities in support of business objectives.
- Support employee development activities, coach, and support direct reports in meeting their personal development objectives.
- Respond to requests from both Canadian and U.S. regulators, internal and external audit in their review/audit of risk models and vetting/validation process and procedures. Provide information and assistance as required.
- Work effectively with internal model development group, Audit, and other internal partners to ensure risk models meet required Bank standards for use.
Depth & Scope:
- Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
- Oversees and leads a large and/or highly complex and diverse reporting function for an area of significant risk, complexity or scope
- Strategic partner to leadership team on the management of the portfolio and financials, with deep industry, external/internal, enterprise knowledge, recognizing and anticipating emerging trends and identifies operational efficiencies and opportunities with other business management/enterprise areas
- Facilitates key strategic discussions and provides thought leadership to executive audience (output may include strategic roadmap and/or deliverables/frameworks short to long term goals etc.)
- Sets operational team direction and collaborates with others to execute on common goals
- Focuses on longer-range planning for functional area (e.g. 12 months or greater)
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree or advanced technical degree preferred (e.g., math, physics, engineering, finance or computer science) Graduate's degree preferred with either progressive project work experience, or;
- 7+ year of relevant experience; higher degree education and research tenure can be counted
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced quantitative skills with post-secondary degree in one or more of the following areas: finance, financial engineering, statistics, economics / econometrics, mathematics
- In-depth knowledge of financial products / portfolios regarding cash flow pattern, embedded optionality, key factors impacting cash flow, and their pricing / valuation approach as well as financial / regulatory reporting in IRRBB, liquidity, and HA
- 4 years + Experience in either developing or validating large TBSM reporting systems in IRRBB, FTP or HA; and 1 years + Experience in managing a small team.
- Proficient in relevant programming languages such as, SAS in MLE, SQL, and Python. Familiarity with JSON is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time / project management and multitasking skills with minimal supervision.
Customer Accountabilities:
- Leads team of Data Modelling professionals and provides day to day direction as needed
- Acts as People Manager and is responsible for ongoing coaching and development, setting objectives, assessing performance
- Leads and oversees the design and delivery of enterprise analytic solutions for customers
- Oversees build of complex statistical models that learn from and scale to petabytes of data
- Works in a highly interactive, team-oriented environment with Big Data developers, and analytical experts
- Provides analytical thought leadership and stays current on developments in data mining
- May be accountable to lead team in developing powerful business insights from social marketing and industrial data using advanced machine learning techniques

- Works closely with key business leaders to develop business plan, ensuring the optimal use of resources and leverages TD’s operating model to maximize efficiency, effectiveness and scale
- Plans and executes on strategic activities, reviews and communicates results, and adjusts tactics accordingly
- Executes on the annual business plan to deliver results aligned with business strategies
- Manages overall budget, revenue and expenditures, meets business objectives while increasing efficiency and effectiveness

- Monitors and communicates the effectiveness of strategies, programs, and practices related to own area of expertise
- Protects the interests of the organization – identifies and manages risks, and escalates non-standard, high-risk transactions/activities as necessary
- Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
- Ensures employees are knowledgeable; and assumes responsibility to minimize operational and regulatory risk by complying with Bank and industry Code of Conduct
