Position Summary

Responsibilities
- Research private equity firms using industry databases and proprietary sources
- Engage directly with general partners (GPs) and placement agents for firm updates
- Screen inbound fund opportunities and produce quick assessments for the team
- Advance potential investments to the quick scan phase for further evaluation
- Meet with GPs to assess investment attractiveness
- Gather and analyze large-scale GP data, leveraging AlpInvest’s proprietary toolkit
- Conduct on-site due diligence and reference calls with CEOs, competitors, former employees, and other limited partners
- Draft internal investment documents
- Organize the investment due diligence process (deal timeline, data room, diligence agenda)
- Participate in team and investment committee discussions on investment proposals
- Collaborate with the legal, operational diligence, and responsible investment teams
- Assist in deal closing by working with the portfolio risk & analysis, investment accounting, and legal teams
- Maintain and update deal flow data in the DealCloud CRM system
- Ensure all GP diligence materials and internal analyses are accurately recorded
- Track investment pipeline statistics and fund closing metrics
- Monitor existing investments, tracking fund performance and GP organizational developments
- Participate in GP update meetings, annual meetings, and advisory board sessions
- Review and process LPA amendments, fund extension requests, and post-closing matters
- Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly client meeting materials
- Develop case studies and pipeline updates for investor presentations
- Support ongoing fundraising efforts, including responding to RFPs and due diligence requests
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 1 – 3 years of experience in investing, investment banking, research, consulting or similar fields
- Experience or strong interest in primary fund investing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to engage with GPs in both social and business settings
- Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced investment environment
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Sense of ownership of work product, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines—often working alongside multiple team members
- Proven teamwork and collaboration abilities across all levels of seniority
- Advanced Excel & PowerPoint skills (financial modeling, data analysis, presentations)
- Deep understanding of the private equity asset class
- Corporate finance and valuation knowledge, with the ability to understand the key drivers of portfolio company operating performance and assess ultimate potential fund-level returns
- Strong writing skills—experience with investment proposals, research reports or market analyses
- Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to support investment decisions
