THE ASSISTANT SCHEDULER OPPOURTUNITY

Turner Construction’s Vancouver office is seeking a full-time Assistant Scheduler. The role requires availability to work on-site or at the head office, Monday to Friday, for 40 hours per week during day, afternoon, evening, or nighttime hours. The role may report to either the Senior Scheduler or Scheduling Manager.

The Assistant Scheduler will develop, revise, and review construction project schedule with project team, and monitor and track progress against defined schedule.

As an Assistant Scheduler, you will:

  • Develop thorough understanding of work breakdown structure and its importance to capture entire project scope for developing project schedule.
  • Reference ‘Scheduling Playbook’ to understand how Scheduling policies, practices, procedures, and activities adhere with company compliance.
  • Learn and/apply knowledge of building construction means and methods, materials, systems, market conditions, and
  • Trade practices to draft project schedules.
  • Collaborate with project team (Engineer and Superintendent) to confirm Contract Item List (CIL), develop Required On Job (ROJ) dates for schedule, and review Procurement Schedule to track and assess vendor delivery dates.
  • Collaborate with project team to develop project schedule based on Critical Path Method (CPM) logic-generated baseline schedules for projects utilizing company provided and standardized scheduling software (P6).
  • Review performance of work to ensure alignment with schedule activities (delivery, logistics) and Trade staffing levels.
  • Create schedules to support sequencing of work and ask questions to define recovery strategies to support project to adhere to schedule.
  • Study schedule deliverables prior to publication or distribution. Ask questions regarding schedule content that may seem confusing or illogical in order to enhance scheduling knowledge.
  • Update schedule based on Pull Plan and incorporate Last Planner System into schedule.
  • Assist project with performing periodic schedule updates based on project required update cadence.
  • Understand change order management process (cost and schedule components) to determine impact to project schedule and inform project stakeholders.
  • Participate in project site progress walks to capture scheduling progress data.
  • Participate in generating local office scheduling reports and summaries for team or project needs.
  • Assist Project Executive/Manager to document scheduling deliverables related to Business Development (BD) activities.
  • Provide support to audit activities for project schedule metrics and dashboard reporting.
  • Learn and/or apply knowledge of continuous improvement to daily tasks and activities.
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Is this the right role for you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited degree program in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction, or related field, with minimum of 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Construction project experience
  • Experience in construction positions (e.g., Field Engineer, Assistant Superintendent, or related)
  • Basic knowledge of building construction means and methods, materials, systems, market conditions, and Trade practices
  • Familiar with scheduling software applications on projects
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work to develop project schedule
  • Basic knowledge of estimating to support project schedule development
  • Ability to manage competing demands and meet deadlines
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Familiar with continuous improvement methodologies
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills, able to present information clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Proficient computer and data entry skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications, and collaborative tools
  • Limited travel
