Job Description
The Documentation Unit Senior Negotiator will be responsible for drafting, analyzing, negotiating and executing master agreements (ISDA, CSA, Master Repurchase Agreements and other forms of standard and non-standard trading agreements) with counterparties for trading products such as derivatives, foreign exchange and fixed income products including repo and securities lending, in addition to certain onboarding documentation required by Dodd Frank with a wide variety of counterparty types, including but not limited to corporate entities, impact finance entities (affordable housing and solar projects), banks, commercial real estate SPVs, and counterparties engaging in Risk Participation Agreements. The Senior Negotiator should be a subject matter expert in documentation relating to derivatives trading and will assume a visible leadership role on the team, including but not limited to supervising and mentoring junior negotiators on the team, performing training for sales and credit team members, and interpreting and structuring hedging language contained in loan agreements. The Senior Negotiator will complete documentation that allows the Bank to be adequately protected against legal, risk, and other operational perspectives in all of its trading documents between the firm and its counterparties, by (a) liaising with business lines, operations, legal, treasury, credit, compliance, client services on various documentation issues, (b) interacting with counterparties on a regular basis to educate, negotiate and execute necessary documents to allow for derivatives trading and (c) working with internal counsel to resolve more complex issues. The candidate will understand the impact of core regulations on the derivatives and other trading markets such as Dodd Frank, Basel III netting requirements, Variation- and Initial-Margin and other applicable regulations on the business area and ensure that agreements meet such regulatory requirements. The Senior Negotiator will be required to provide accurate, real-time updates to all business partners and will assist in the design, structure and buildout of the Documentation Unit, giving recommendations as to process, technology projects, and management and regulatory reporting requirements.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's or advanced degree, or equivalent work experience
- Typically more than 12 years of applicable experience
Preferred Skills/Experience
- At least 10 years of experience working in derivatives operations and/or derivatives documentation
- Exceptional verbal and interpersonal skills
- Skillful oral and written communication is necessary; the ability to convey thoughts clearly and succinctly and to communicate pertinent complex information in a clear and organized manner
- Demonstrated leadership, analytical and organization skills
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior negotiators
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, working under pressure to meet deadlines, and ability to respond quickly in a fast-paced trading environment
- High degree of integrity and strong work ethic
The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $159,970.00 - $188,200.00U.S. Bank will consider qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records for employment.
