Job Description

The Operations and Finance Director serves as a key leader within the U.S. Bank Foundation, overseeing daily operations across multiple functional areas. This includes personnel management, grant and engagement systems, accounting, business operations, and administrative support.

Reporting to the Foundation President and working closely with the Foundation Board, this role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing operational policies, procedures, and processes that support the Foundation’s mission. This role will also play a significant role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational, financial, and compliance risks to safeguard the Foundation’s assets, reputation, and long-term viability.

The Director also plays a critical role in the grantmaking process—budgeting for, evaluating, distributing, tracking, and reporting on grants during the Foundation’s annual grant cycles.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Planning & Policy

  • Lead operational planning to support the Foundation’s strategic goals.

  • Recommend and enforce policies and procedures in compliance with legal and organizational standards.

  • Lead the implementation of an enterprise-wide grantmaking and volunteer technology platform, aligning with corporate growth objectives and enhancing employee engagement. Oversee seamless integration with existing systems, drive adoption through change management strategies, and measure impact through data-driven insights to support community impact and inclusion goals.

Grant Management & Finance

  • Develop and monitor the Foundation’s budget and financial plans.

  • Oversee expenditures, tax filings, and contracts with consultants and vendors.

  • Collaborate with the Board and investment managers to optimize investment strategies.

  • Develop and execute annual and ongoing grant management training.

  • Oversee grant programs, ensuring timely and appropriate awarding of grants as well as tracking and reporting and alignment with giving strategies and strategic objectives

  • Support Community Reinvestment Service Test data collection and reporting.

Risk & Governance

  • Partner in risk-related activities including audits, quality assurance, and system access reviews.

  • Collaborate with internal risk partners to maintain compliance and ensure appropriate process documentation and procedures.

  • Support the Foundation Board and designated Board committee operations as assigned.

Leadership

  • Lead a team of program managers, operations support to ensure high performance and alignment with Foundation goals.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support the Foundation President with operations rigor and strategic planning

  • Represent the Foundation President in meetings, taskforces, and stakeholder engagements.

SKILLS:

Financial Acumen

  • Possess a strong understanding of financial management principles to guide organizational strategy. Apply sound fiscal practices to ensure responsible, data-driven decision-making.

  • Proven success in utilizing updated technology and tools to develop innovative solutions and advocate for continuous improvement.

Leadership & Team Empowerment

  • Proven success in leading cross-functional teams, inspiring action, and cultivating leadership behaviors at all levels of the organization

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively build and maintain strong relationships across teams and invite input and feedback from key stakeholders when addressing problems.

Data Analytics & Insight Generation

  • Skilled in leveraging data to inform strategy, measure outcomes, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Proven track record of developing and executing corporate Foundation strategies aligned with business goals

  • Experience partnering with cross functional teams and business leaders to embed inclusion into core people and business strategies

  • Experience connecting Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) regulatory requirements to corporate investments and employee volunteer services

  • Experience leading and advising teams who oversee corporate foundation operations including governance, leadership development, and alignment with business strategy

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills

  • Familiarity with grant management or customer relationship systems, dashboards, community impact metrics, and philanthropic analytics

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $149,515.00 - $175,900.00
