Your role
We are looking for a Tax Specialist to join our UBS Asset Management Tax Team as an Associate Director.
Specifically, the job holder is expected to:
• Collaborate with all business areas of AM across the US region to manage and resolve tax issues related to AM products, including the development of new products and providing specialized asset management tax advice on structuring and efficiency at the fund, investor, and portfolio levels
• Oversee annual tax compliance processes for various fund types (trading funds, private credit funds, fund of funds, mutual funds), ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations
• Manage and monitor FATCA/CRS, FBAR, 1099, and shareholder reporting for UBS AM Funds
• Serve as the primary contact for investor inquiries regarding tax reporting deliverables, ensuring timely and accurate responses and thorough reviews of investor deliverables (e.g., K-1 forms, estimated tax letters)
• Ensure timely filing of all tax returns and compliance with Group Tax policies and supplements
• Manage tax risk (financial and reputational) across the region, including, but not limited to:
o Regular reviews and reporting of tax risk issues to the US Head of AM Tax
o Implementing procedures and controls to mitigate tax risk
o Monitoring tax and operational risk related to third-party service providers (fund administrators, advisors)
• Provide prompt and comprehensive responses to investor inquiries
• Support portfolio managers by addressing fund-related questions concerning jurisdictional requirements, diversification tests, and withholding tax matters
• Support business initiatives through the TRPA process, including pre- and post-launch conditions and coordination with Group Tax specialists for country-specific and indirect/specialist tax sign-off
• Manage the appointment and oversight of external advisors on tax matters, ensuring compliance with UBS internal contract management requirements
• Review of tax wording in fund documentation and other AM relevant legal agreements
• Build and maintain relationships with senior management and UBS Group stakeholders to establish and communicate tax priorities based on changing regulatory environments
• Engage the business in tax matters, reconciling the competing imperatives of the management of tax risk with commercial and regulatory drivers of the business
• Ensure that the AM business adhere to the Group Tax policies and supplements
• Manage various tax control and governance documents for US AM business including periodic update of the existing documents and creation of new documents where required
• Provide the business with regular updates and training on tax and regulatory developments
• Assist in regulatory projects where a tax expert is required (e.g. FATCA, CRS, CARF, s871m, Financial Transaction Tax)
• Build and maintain relationships with UBS Group functions (e.g. Finance/Legal) and other UBS divisions (Global Wealth Management and Investment Bank) to build the profile of AM Tax, and to ensure the transfer of knowledge for the benefit of the UBS Group

Your team
The role will be in the AM business division (within the AM COO Area) and will report to the United States Head of AM Tax, who is based in New York. The job holder will be based in Mumbai, India, and will be responsible for covering the US region. In addition to working closely with the US AM business, the job holder will work with the AM Tax team across the globe, as well as with US Group Tax colleagues.
This is an exciting challenge for a skilled, experienced tax professional who is keen on establishing themselves within a growing and dynamic Asset Management business.
Your expertise
The job holder should have strong leadership skills, with a confident appearance and a willingness to work in a collaborative and international team environment. Specific knowledge and experience required includes:
• Qualified tax professional (Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Advisor, Tax Lawyer or equivalent)
• Demonstrated expertise in asset management and operational tax issues for various fund structures
• In-depth knowledge of trading securities, derivatives, financial products, private credit, fund of funds, and mutual fund taxation
• Extensive experience with federal, international, and state/local tax compliance for partnerships and corporations, including US and Cayman entities
• Demonstrated expertise in designing fund structures to address tax considerations, ensuring optimal implementation and efficiency
• Skilled in year-end shareholder reporting, FBAR, and 1099 reporting
• Proficient in key regulatory topics such as FATCA, CRS, and CARF; knowledge of fund taxation in Luxembourg is a plus
• Minimum 6 to 8 years of Financial Services tax experience, gained at a Big Four accounting or law firm, or in-house at a Financial Services firm.
• Forward-thinking and commercially aware, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and influence all levels of management
• Recognized for high standing in the tax profession, representing UBS professionally in industry and government bodies.
