Renewables Electrical Design Engineer

The Opportunity
Ulteig, and its affiliated companies, are hiring talented and motivated a Renewable Electrical Design Engineer. In this role, you will support the design of utility-scale renewable projects on wind and or battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects. This role will be a strategic contributor to the growth of our Renewables Lifeline Sector®.

What You’ll Do
- Create and review electrical designs for wind and or battery energy storage projects, including one-line diagrams, grounding, protection schemes, low voltage auxiliary systems, equipment elevations, bill of materials, panel board details, cable installation details, and other drawings associated with the design for Utility Scale renewable systems (100-500MW+).
- Design projects on multi-discipline teams of 2-4 people, including a design engineer (focused on the layout, details, etc.), a system studies engineer, with additional support from CAD technicians.
- Perform electrical studies such as cable ampacity, energy loss, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, and grounding analysis.
- Select and specify key electrical components such as transformers, switchgear, inverters, relays, and batteries.
- Work closely with internal project teams, external contractors, and equipment vendors to deliver complete and buildable designs.
- Assist with utility interconnection applications and ensure compliance with applicable codes (NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA).
- Provide technical guidance during construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure the design intent is achieved in the field.
- Keep up to date with evolving wind and BESS technologies, codes, and standards to incorporate best practices into designs.
- Additional duties may include tasks beyond what is listed, such as special projects, assisting colleagues, or new initiatives. A willingness to adapt to changing priorities and support team efforts enhances collaboration and growth opportunities.
What We Expect from You
- Bachelor's in electrical engineering required, ABET-accredited program, or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in power systems, with detailed design of Renewable Wind or BESS projects strongly preferred.
- Ability to work in a hybrid mode schedule; 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.
- Must possess strong verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR level B2–C1). You should be comfortable articulating complex ideas and collaborating effectively within a global professional environment.
- Experience with engineering software such as ETAP, Easypower, CYME, AutoCAD, REVIT, CDEGS, or similar is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be a self-starter and willing to identify improvements and implement them, utilizing support from others.
- Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
- Due to the dynamic nature of the renewable energy market, the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must.
- Knowledge of Wind and/or BESS systems, NEC and NESC requirements, and construction practices is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- The position requires the ability to prioritize demands and manage multiple workstreams effectively within ambitious and condensed timelines.
- Ability to maintain project schedule and achieve target due dates.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients and external agencies.
- Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in a High-paced environment while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
- Must have authorization to work legally in Costa Rica for any employer.
