The Opportunity

Ulteig, and its affiliated companies, are hiring for an HR Generalist to join the team and serve as a key member of the Costa Rica HR team, with the potential to support additional countries as the organization grows.

In this generalist role, you will primarily focus on executing and implementing HR processes and programs, partnering with business leaders and HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) to support company goals. While the role is primarily focused on Costa Rica, it may also provide HR support to other countries with similar responsibilities as business needs evolve.

You will support key HR activities, including employee relations, performance management, SOP’s, employee engagement, promotions, total rewards, and HR compliance/administration, among others.

**Please note that resumes must be submitted in English for the application to be considered**

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees and managers for routine HR inquiries (policies, benefits, programs, and processes); escalate complex and sensitive matters as appropriate.
  • Support employee relations cases, including guidance to leaders and employees, coordination of investigations, and documentation of outcomes in alignment with company policy and Costa Rican labor law; escalate sensitive matters appropriately.
  • Coordinate and administer core HR processes and documentation (promotions, transfers, role changes, performance cycle administration, and employee lifecycle updates), ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Maintain HR data integrity by administering employee records, HR systems, and personnel files with confidentiality and attention to detail, in accordance with internal controls and data privacy requirements.
  • Partner with HR Centers of Excellence (Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Employee Experience, Talent Development, Performance Management) to support the local execution of programs, including communications, scheduling, and employee and leader enablement.
  • Support benefits administration and vendor coordination as needed, including CCSS, INS, and supplementary health plans; provide backup support for payroll coordination and related inputs in compliance with local requirements.
  • Support HR compliance activities by maintaining required documentation, assisting with internal or external audits, and staying informed of updates to Costa Rican labor law; escalate compliance risks, trends, or complex cases as needed.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of HR documentation, including employee handbooks, SOPs, policies, contracts, and internal guidelines, ensuring alignment with Costa Rican labor laws and company standards.
  • Coordinate updates to HR templates and documentation, partnering with HR leadership and legal counsel to implement changes accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the standardization and improvement of HR processes as the organization grows, identifying gaps and supporting the development of scalable workflows, templates, and controls.
  • Review and support employment contracts, amendments, and related documentation for compliance and consistency, in partnership with HR leadership and legal counsel.
  • Ensure proper documentation and tracking of employment changes, including contract updates, role modifications, and compensation-related adjustments.
  • Coordinate offboarding logistics and documentation (resignations, terminations, clearances, and final settlements/liquidation) in accordance with Costa Rican labor law, ensuring required approvals and accurate records.
  • Support onboarding and orientation administration, including scheduling, documentation, and coordination for immigration or visa processes where applicable; provide backup support for related operational tasks.
  • Provide administrative and coordination support for employee engagement and experience initiatives, including communications, logistics, and action item tracking, in partnership with leaders and the HR Manager.
  • Prepare routine HR reports and dashboards, track key metrics, and compile insights to support decision making; flag trends or concerns for review.
  • Provide HR operational support for additional countries, as assigned, in alignment with standardized processes and applicable local labor regulations.
  • Support performance management and corrective action processes, including coaching leaders on documentation and expectations, preparing and tracking written warnings/disciplinary actions, supporting performance improvement plans (PIPs), and coordinating termination documentation and approvals in alignment with Costa Rican labor law.
  • Additional duties may include tasks beyond what is listed, such as special projects, assisting colleagues, or new initiatives. A willingness to adapt to changing priorities and support team efforts enhances collaboration and growth opportunities.

What We Expect from You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources management, Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, including experience in an HR Generalist, HR Operations, or similar role.
  • Strong working knowledge of Costa Rican labor laws required; familiarity with international labor standards and exposure to other Latin American labor frameworks preferred.
  • Experience supporting HR processes in a multinational or matrixed organization; exposure to global HR practices and collaboration with HR Centers of Excellence preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience executing and coordinating core HR processes, such as employee relations support, performance management cycles, promotions, transfers, onboarding, and offboarding.
  • Experience supporting HR documentation, including policies, SOPs, templates, contracts, and employee communications, in alignment with local regulations and company standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English, with the ability to tailor communications to employees and leaders at all levels of the organization; demonstrated business partnering skills and sound business acumen.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR level B2–C1). You should be comfortable articulating complex ideas and collaborating effectively within a global professional environment.

  • Must have authorization to work legally in Costa Rica for any employer.
