Job overview and responsibilities

United Airlines’ Digital Retail Platform department partners with business and technology leaders across the company to create services and applications across key airline functionalities and operational Systems to help support the commercial and digital Channels of United.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-driven Associate Engineer who is eager to learn, take ownership, and contribute to meaningful solutions. For someone looking to take initiative, solve meaningful problems and develop a long-term career in tech, this is an exciting launchpad.
As an Associate Engineer, you will work closely with senior developers in an Agile setup, helping enhance and maintain enterprise applications with a focus on performance, scalability, and user experience.

• Problem Solving & DevOps Enablement
  • Assist in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and work with Git-based version control under guidance
  • Support user stories across the delivery lifecycle (development, testing, deployment) in collaboration with senior engineers
  • Contribute to DevOps activities such as basic performance tuning, troubleshooting, and incremental application improvements
  • Gain hands-on exposure to cloud-based and containerized deployment workflows

  • Demonstrate initiative in learning new technologies, frameworks, or tools

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Computer Science / IT / or related field)
• 2+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud, Platform Engineering, or a related role (including internships or academic projects)
• Basic understanding of AWS Cloud fundamentals, such as:
o Compute, storage, networking, and IAM concepts
• Basic knowledge of containerization concepts (e.g., Docker) and container-based application workflows
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based version control systems
• Exposure to GitOps principles (e.g., managing infrastructure or deployments through Git workflows)
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and the software development lifecycle
• Basic understanding of RESTful APIs.
• Willingness to learn, take ownership, and deliver tasks independently with guidance
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
