Job overview and responsibilities

The Assistant Manager will lead and direct a team of HMCs (Hub Maintenance Coordinators) at each HUB location. This position is an essential component of Aircraft Maintenance’s mission to deliver safe and reliable aircraft with efficiency and on time excellence. The Assistant manager will lead the team to ensure the primary goals of Tech Ops (Reliability, OTS, Safety, Execution, and Fuel Efficiency) are met. Identify ways to reduced delay’s and cancellation’s in volume, but also the duration reduction of a delay that do take place and produce a significant cost savings. Leads the team in providing a significant and tangible improvement in communication flow with all departments at the applicable HUB and Willis Tower (NOC/TOMC). Oversee communications at locations, to increase information sharing and needed decisions are made in a more linear and focused manner. To ensure sustainability and realize the stated efficiencies and dollar savings, the program will include performance tracking and measurement by each HMC HUB Assistant Manager and his/her applicable HUB Senior leadership team.

  • Oversight of the daily operation in the HMC area
  • Ensure training and proficiencies of HMC performing daily duties
  • Build and maintain a positive working relationship with all SOC stakeholders and TOMC for applicable stations
  • Track and analyze performance of HMC team on a daily basis with emphasis on delay/cancel performance, STAR and OTS goal achievement
  • Lead and ensure compliance in all HMC activities
  • Coordinate and track the recovery of scheduled deferred items
  • Notify and communicate the status of aircraft that are out of service or on a maintenance delay to Maintenance Control and local operations
  • Coordinate and track planned maintenance efforts for thru flights
  • Initiate and update TOCS (Technical Operations Computer System) and AMIS logs on all aircraft that are out of service, in a planned hold, or have significant maintenance activities on going
  • Coordinate station supplier requirements that are required to support maintenance activities
  • Identify and communicate maintenance troubleshooting and repair procedures as required
  • Ensure delay reports are entered and compile delay data for tracking and analysis
  • Identify issues and engage in structured problem-solving to assist HMC in accomplishing work
  • Backfill for shift manager when needed
  • Actively involved in the next shift preparation and the success of the station plan
  • Provide meaningful feedback, coaching current and new supervisors to improve overall skills and proficiencies
  • Actively recognize your team or individual’s performance by using UA recognition tools (i.e. Bravo, UA100)
  • Facilitate in-person training and/or presentations as required
  • Consistently involved in station projects and/or extra activities to improve, meet or exceed departmental goals
  • Organize /track projects to maximize change management and increase successful implementation
  • Provide supervisors, leads and technicians with guidance, leadership, direction, coaching, feedback, and recognition as appropriate
  • Set expectations regarding performance standards for supervisors and technicians, gain their commitment under Company guidelines and CBA (if applicable)
  • Assist with career action planning, goal setting and employee development including but not limited to assisting Manager/Director (if applicable) with mid-year & end-year performance reviews of Supervisors

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant License required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • 3+ years airline background in maintenance
  • 3+ years in a Supervisory role
  • Knowledge of Technical Operations policies and procedures
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

The base pay range for this role is $134,663.40 to $164,588.60.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
