Job overview and responsibilities


Specialist role driving performance insights and improvements for United’s environmental compliance and sustainability teams. Works cross-functionally to develop, implement, maintain and optimize environmental data management systems. Executes tracking and analysis of environmental data to inform compliance and sustainability programs. Collaborates with leadership to evaluate and recommend tools that improve environmental management efficiency. Supports system data analysis across cost tracking, compliance, sustainability, drinking water, and policy initiatives. Participates in project management teams for the design and roll out of new or changing EMS tools. Support other job duties as required.

  • EMIS - Manage the collection, maintenance, tracking and analysis of environmental compliance and sustainability data
  • Manage and maintain United’s environmental sustainability electronic systems and databases for all United users
  • Work with department leadership to develop and implement EMS & Digital Technology system goals to streamline environmental data collection, tracking, reporting, and dashboard communications to support United’s ongoing environmental and sustainability goals
  • Work with United’s Digital Technology Department and third-party technology providers on technology related projects including system implementation, training, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance
  • Lead communications among internal customers on EMIS implementation, planning/coordination efforts, and best practices sharing
  • Collect, maintain, track and analyze department data – Assist the Environmental Affairs department with technical solutions in other functional areas including cost tracking, drinking water, compliance tracking, environmental sustainability metrics, policy analysis, footprint, etc.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity in all environmental database systems
  • Assist with special projects, data requests, internal and external inspections, etc. as necessary and requested
  • Support environmental sustainability and policies - Assist with the development of new ESG and sustainability related processes to support United’s internal and external reporting requirements and initiatives
  • Work with technology vendors to evaluate, assess, and recommend new technology solutions to foster efficiencies within the environmental sustainability framework while also protecting the integrity and confidentiality of the data
  • Leadership - Establish individual goals that align with departmental goals
  • Responsible in developing individual career development and training plans with their Sr. Manager and Director
  • Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s approved projects, specifically including the environmental management information systems
  • A self-starter that is solution oriented and committed to creating and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Models integrity, possesses self-awareness and fosters an environment of accountability
  • Will be held accountable for providing constant and transparent communication to their project teams, leadership, stakeholders and customers

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, environmental sciences/policy, computer science or related area
  • 2+ years of professional environmental job experience including environmental IT systems management and/or use
  • Effective personal and professional communication skills, including internal and external stakeholders
  • Project management skills
  • Presentation skills, adaptable to varying levels of employees and leadership
  • Able to analyze and interpret data
  • Environmental regulatory knowledge
  • Self-motivated, works independently with little oversight
  • Problem solver
  • Experience with data management systems
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office suite, SharePoint, analytic tools such as Power BI, Spotfire, or Tableau
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 5+ years of environmental job experience, including environmental IT systems management and/or use in the aviation industry
  • Knowledge of airline practices and operational procedures
  • Knowledge of aviation industry and aviation related environmental sustainability rules, best management practices and databases
  • Knowledge of airline practices and operational procedures as well as legal environmental (compliance) obligations

The base pay range for this role is $81,795.00 to $106,602.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
