As a MuleSoft Integration Architect at Optum, you will work hands on with our customers and partners to solve mission-critical business challenges using MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform. You will provide onsite technical guidance on MuleSoft implementation projects, evaluate the customer’s technical and functional requirements, and develop cost-effective solutions to provide customers with demonstrable returns. As a subject-matter expert in the field, you will develop solutions to help customers realize their business goals and advise them on best practices for on-premise, cloud, and hybrid integration, and API management.

Primary Responsibilities
- Develop integration solutions to meet the requirements using components of the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, including Design Center, Anypoint Studio, API Manager, Data Weave, Message Queue, and assets from the Anypoint Exchange
- Solution Design: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and design scalable, efficient, and secure integration solutions using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform. This involves creating high-level and low-level solution designs, defining integration patterns, and selecting appropriate MuleSoft components and connectors
- System Integration: Develop, configure, and deploy MuleSoft integration applications and APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). This includes creating integration flows, message routing, data transformation, and implementing error handling and logging mechanisms
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and leadership to development teams, ensuring adherence to best practices, coding standards, and MuleSoft architectural principles. Review code and provide feedback to ensure high-quality deliverables
- Performance Optimization: Identify performance bottlenecks, conduct performance testing, and optimize integration solutions for improved throughput, scalability, and reliability. Implement caching, message queuing, and other optimization techniques as necessary
- Security and Governance: Implement security measures and best practices to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Define and enforce API governance policies, including access controls, rate limiting, and monitoring
- Collaboration: Work closely with business analysts, solution architects, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, conduct solution reviews, and document technical specifications, integration flows, and deployment processes
- Troubleshooting and Support: Assist in troubleshooting production issues, identifying root causes, and implementing resolutions. Provide ongoing support and maintenance for MuleSoft integration solutions
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with MuleSoft product updates, new features, and integration trends. Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to existing integration processes, frameworks, and tools
- Provide guidance and drive creation of standards, reusable assets, and automation required for scale and multi-Line of Business adoption
- Assist on technical POC’s to prove out technology and ultimately leading into selection
- Convey complex and technical issues to diverse audiences, orally and in writing, in a manner that is easily understood, authoritative, and actionable for the business
- Work closely with System Integrators and provide guidance throughout the SLDC
- Collaborate with enterprise architects and IT program managers to enhance existing business applications and facilitate solutions to meet business requirements
- Assist in architecting technical solutions for enterprise systems using the MuleSoft product suite to drive the value equation and adapt to a rapidly changing business environment Knowledge of SOA
- Design patterns for building middleware systems ground up using Message Routing, Content Enrichment, Message Filtering, Message Transformation, guaranteed delivery, Message sequencing, Batch message processing, error handling and reconciliation mechanisms
- Responsible for the delivery of continuous and up to date components of the PaaS Enterprise and Ecosystem Architecture Diagrams including
- Enterprise Architecture Diagram:
- Integration Libraries with Integrations and endpoints,
- Reusable customization for enterprise architecture,
- Platform extension products and endpoints,
- Platform extensibility products and integrations,
- Ecosystem Enterprise Architecture Diagram shall delineate:
- ATO Boundaries
- FedRAMP Boundaries
- Product and Platform Clouds and Boundaries
- Data Architecture and Boundaries
- VA source system integrations, including direct connections and hubs
- LCNC cross-platform integrations
- Native platform extensions
- Low Code platform extensions, including app exchange and third-party SaaS products
- Enterprise Architecture Diagram:

Required Qualifications:
- Shall have all the below certifications:
- MuleSoft Certified Developer – Integration and API Associate
- MuleSoft Certified Developer – Integration Professional
- MuleSoft Certified Platform Architect
- MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect
- Masters Degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required
- 10 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
- 10+ years of experience as Platform Architect or in a relevant role
- 5+ years of hands-on development experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform
- Strong experience in designing and implementing integration solutions using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform
- High proficiency and proven experience creating Architecture Diagrams
- Proficient in MuleSoft Anypoint Studio, DataWeave, MuleSoft API Manager, Control Plane, Visualizer, Exchange, RTF, API Governance, MQ, and CloudHub 1.0 and 2.0
- Proficiency in integrating with Salesforce, Microsoft Power Platform, Pega, and other leading cloud technologies
- 3+ years of experience managing teams
- In-depth understanding of integration patterns, web services, API design, and SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) principles
- Knowledge of RESTful and SOAP-based services, JSON, XML, and other common data formats
- Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns, ESB (Enterprise Service Bus) concepts and messaging systems
- Knowledge of Web Services Interoperability, WS-* standards and ability to suggest, challenge and formulate solutions in a multi-vendor and architecture committee meetings
- Understanding of security concepts, such as SSL/TLS, OAuth, and SAML
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: BA/BS degree is a plus
- 4+ years as an Integration Architect working on enterprise-scale solutions for industry leaders is desired
- Experience with managing complex integrations
- Strong programming skills in Java, and experience with other programming languages is a plus
- In-depth experience using Agile, Scrum and iterative development practices
- Federal Government and Healthcare experience verticals are desirable
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a team environment and engage with stakeholders at various levels
- Must be able to use a computer
- Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
- All work must be conducted in the United States
- Must be able to communicate both verbally and in written form
- Must be able to conduct work and be available in VA communication channels during (EST business hours)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
