Optum AI is UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise AI team. We are AI/ML scientists and engineers with deep expertise in AI/ML engineering for health care. We develop AI/ML solutions for the highest impact opportunities across UnitedHealth Group businesses including UnitedHealthcare, Optum Financial, Optum Health, Optum Insight, and Optum Rx. In addition to transforming the health care journey through responsible AI/ML innovation, our charter also includes developing and supporting an enterprise AI/ML development platform.

As the Senior Principal Technical Product Manager, you will design, develop, and manage activities for Gen AI products from product definition and planning through production, release, and end of life. Responsible for the full product lifecycle management including delivery, with a technical focus, including strategy, design, development, management, and end of life of new, existing or acquisition products. Leverage market insights to understand market/customer needs as well as emerging technology developments and trends to identify new opportunities or adjust current product offerings. Balances deep subject matter expertise in the product, business use cases and strong technical aptitude.
Accountable for delivering product performance and updates changes to a product portfolio to improve competitive position, and optimal product performance to meet customer and market needs. Collaborate with finance team to deliver within budget. Responsible for cross-functional stakeholder management to include but not limited to design, engineering, scrum teams, business leaders, etc., functioning as technical expert with a fluency in development concepts and modern development practices. The ideal candidate will be an industry thought leader, serve as product SME and committed to developing solutions that transform the industry.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the roadmap for generative AI capabilities in United AI Studio (our ML platform) to enable thousands of developers to build their own applications
- Provide regular updates about the adoption of Generative AI across the enterprise and significant industry trends to senior leadership and executives
- Create and manage best practices for use of Gen AI that will ensure secure, consistent, and efficient use of resources across the UHG enterprise
- Evangelize the benefits of generative AI through proofs-of-concept and demos to drive adoption for employees and functional roles across the UHG enterprise including technology, operations, marketing, legal, compliance, people team, internal infrastructure, and more
- Manage matrix partners and cross-functional stakeholder strategy
- Develop and implement Gen AI enterprise adoption, training, and communications plan
- Closely collaborate with the Responsible Use of AI (RUAI) team to ensure that the delivered solutions are compliant with the company policies and standards
- Closely collaborate with customers to enable implementation of end-to-end Gen AI solution pipelines on the enterprise ML platform
- Closely collaborate with major CSPs and Gen AI services vendors to enable the best of breed Gen AI services on the enterprise ML platform

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, related STEM field
- 8+ years of experience in technical product development or management including 5+ years focused on AI/ML lifecycle management from concept to product delivery
- 5+ years of experience leading initiatives/projects, modeling effective collaboration and influencing cross-functionally within a large, matrixed organization
- 3+ years of experience in establishing and enforcing AI/ML best practices and standards
- Experience developing communication strategies and creating Executive-level content/materials
Preferred Qualifications:
- Healthcare Experience
- Experience in training teams on demos and storytelling

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $147,300 to $282,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
