The Senior Information Security Engineer is responsible for serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for information security across Optum Serve. This role will work as part of the security team to implement new technology solutions and ensure alignment with Enterprise Information Security (EIS) standards. The selected candidate will work to standardize the security controls to safeguard networks and systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for security tool sets
  • Collaborate with Optum security teams to implement new software, policy configurations, and settings
  • Evaluate and recommend security controls and tooling for on-premises and cloud infrastructure
  • Develop innovative approaches and solve complex problems
  • Liaise with Business and IT Groups during the security analysis, design, and planning phases of IT and business-related projects
  • Create and maintain new and existing playbooks/runbooks, ensuring high-quality work standards with multifunctional team members
  • Evaluate vulnerabilities and make recommendations for remediation
  • Ensure day-to-day operational tasks are performed and security metrics are relevant and current
  • Maintain expertise in Information Security, including industry trends, strategies, vulnerabilities, and threats to ensure the company’s assets are effectively and appropriately secured
  • Participate in security incident response processes as needed
  • Be available off-hours to support incidents and participate in on-call rotation

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field, OR 4+ years of information security experience
  • Possess at least one of the following certifications: CISSP, CISM, CISA, CCSP, or other relevant security certifications
  • 5+ years of experience working in a large enterprise
  • 5+ years of experience with cybersecurity standards (such as NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171)
  • 3+ years of experience with certification and accreditation processes (DIACAP, NIST RMF)
  • 2+ years of experience in network/application/system vulnerability and threat management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated written executive communication and presentation skills
  • Work experience supporting federal security programs (DoD, VA, DHS preferred)
  • Prior military service
  • Experience with Tanium security platform administration
  • Experience with Tenable administration
  • Experience with Symantec Endpoint Protection
  • Experience with Bloodhound Enterprise
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud
  • Experience working with Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Experience with data loss prevention (DLP) and endpoint detection and response (EDR) systems

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
