We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Software Engineer with expertise in modern software technologies: Go/Java/.NET, microservices, cloud, Kubernetes, Docker, containers, CI/CD, and test automation. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of the next generation of our closed loop payment processor and network, currently available through Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, Albertsons, Dollar General, and other major retailers. This network processes $10B+ in payments annually and is doubling every year.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality products. Solid problem-solving skills, leadership abilities, a deep understanding of software engineering principles, and an understanding of highly available and resilient systems are essential for this role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, architecture, and development of scalable and high-performance software solutions using Java, .NET, Microservice, Cloud, Kubernetes, Docker, and Containers
  • Collaborate with product managers, software architects, and development teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, promoting best practices and ensuring the delivery of high-quality code
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, particularly in Cloud Native technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, and Containers, and apply this knowledge to improve software solutions
  • Drive the adoption of best practices, coding standards, and software development methodologies, with a focus on highly available and resilient systems

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in modern programming languages such as Go, Java, C#, Node.js, Python
  • 1+ years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer or a similar role
  • 1+ years of experience with cloud-based technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 1+ years of experience building API-driven platforms handling significant traffic and data loads
  • 1+ years of experience with Cloud Native technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, and Containers
  • 1+ years of experience with modern DevSecOps and test automation practices and tools (Jenkins, Github, PostMan, etc.)
  • 1+ years of experience using distributed systems and high-performance computing, including interpreting operational systems behaviors and resiliency strategies
  • 1+ years working in an agile environment, especially Scrum or Kanban

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
