About the role:

The Pricing team is part of Optum Rx’s Dublin office and is a key contributor to enabling the delivery of ever more sophisticated pricing tools and strategies. Our solutions help the organization to maintain its competitiveness in winning new business and driving our market presence.

The team has a very strong technical, data and analytical capability which supports the bid life-cycle through automation, analytics and data driven strategic recommendations. The tools and solutions developed are scalable, robust and production ready to meet ever growing bid activity.

Its creative approach to problem solving drives the innovative deliverables from the adjacent possible to the transformational. This moves us up the sophistication curve and brings the power of data and analytics to bear on more aspects of the bid process.

Its analytical function works to interrogate historical bid data to extract informational and actionable insights which are consumed by our multiple business partners from pre-sales to underwriters and executive leadership. Leveraging our strong business relationships these new tools and insights are integrated into existing processes to empower our business partners and collectively achieve our specific economic targets and plans.

Working Schedule:

This is a full-time position with standard working hours of Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin or Letterkenny office and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid work model.

Primary Responsibilities of the Principal Data Analyst:

  • Engage with stakeholders to understand strategic requirements to inform your solutions/ delivery

  • Independently, or working with the team, develop data/ analytical-driven solutions to deliver tools/ analyses to meet requirements

  • Leading solution delivery projects; ensuring the delivery of robust, sustainable and scalable solutions while engaging with IT and business partners

  • Be self-directed in interrogating data to shape your analyses

  • Recommend innovative ideas and/or procedures to improve existing strategies

  • Present to audiences of varying organizational roles and hierarchy levels

  • Develop strong working relationships with key partners across the business

  • Influence senior management decisions that impact business direction

Required Qualifications of the Principal Data Analyst:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (mathematics, physics, engineering, finance, economics etc.) or equivalent experience

  • Extensive experience in analytical roles using SQL and one or more of the following R, Python or similar

  • Experience with Git version control system (e.g. Github) and knowledge of DevOps and agile development practices

  • Proven ability to work with large datasets across disparate relational databases and familiarity with various database technologies

  • Experience in data ETL and blending tools

Preferred Qualifications of the Principal Data Analyst:

  • Experience with cloud technology (e.g. databricks, Snowflake)

  • Experience creating visualizations using Power BI or similar, to tell a compelling story with data and effectively deliver actionable insights

  • Competency evaluating existing business processes, designing, communicating, planning and effecting change

  • Experience in managed health care or pharmacy benefit management

Soft Skills of the Principal Data Analyst:

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, a strong work ethic, and demonstrated teamwork skills

  • Ability to take ownership, function independently and effectively within teams and in a self-directed environment

  • Highly motivated, change/innovation agent and self-starter

  • Strong communication skills, able to work with stakeholders from multiple levels and disciplines

  • Ability to influence others and achieve common goals
