Responsibilities*

To assist the leadership team in planning, coordinating and managing the clinical and associated administrative duties for the Nursing Team in the Cardiac Cath Lab of the CPU. This includes direct supervision of RN?s, along with functional supervision for Cardiology Tech?s, clerical staff, and APP?s.

This Nurse Supervisor would be responsible for:

  • Managing budgets, payroll, staff schedules, staff reviews, monthly nursing workload meetings, and employee evaluations, as well as helping improve daily operational processes, and working with physicians to monitor/coordinate scheduling within the labs.
  • This nurse supervisor would be responsible for maintaining a staffing schedule which is consistent with patient care requirements and aligns with varying clinical activity, patient mix and PTO schedules.
  • Supervising staff orientation and support educational development with the Nurse Educator.
  • Planning, implementing, and supervising quality assurance activities.
  • Participating in concurrent and retrospective evaluation of patient care through activities such as documentation review, audits, and rounds.
  • Providing clinical RN Supervisory backup in the Electrophysiology Lab, Recovery, and Observation areas when urgent issues arise.
  • Leading a team to fill open positions by interviewing candidates, selecting applicants, and making hiring decisions.
  • Supervisor on call duties as assigned for the AMI process and to handle any other after regular business hours? issues.
  • Works closely with HR, Clinical Director, Administrative Director of Health Care and Medical Directors to create and implement performance plans for employees and operational goals when necessary.

Required Qualifications*

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

Required Educational Requirements:

  • Applicant must meet one of the following:

*Bachelors of Science in Nursing OR

*Associates degree or Diploma in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing.

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum two (2) years (within the last 5 years) RN experience in ICU/PACU/ED/Cath Lab or EP Lab.
  • Nurse Leadership certification or completion within two (2) years of accepting this position or when eligible to certify, whichever comes first. Certification is expected to be maintained while in this leadership role. Examples include Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or, Nurse Executive (NE-BC). Certifications must be recognized by the Magnet Recognition Program and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). See full list here
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including creative and effective problem-solving, ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and ability to direct nursing practice and apply critical thinking skills/judgment to a variety of situations.

Experience supervising Cath Lab, EP Lab, surgical centers, or other procedural areas such as OR and IR. Previous Clinical Cardiology, or Cath Lab experienceLean Management/Process Improvement experienceDemonstrated attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to perform as a role model to nursing staff. Demonstrates ability to mentor teams and foster staff engagement.Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills to provide leadership, foster multidisciplinary collaboration, service excellence, and Patient Family Centered Care (PFC). Demonstrated ability to work effectively with administrators, physicians, and peers across U-M Health to improve care in the CPU. Demonstrates a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles and sensitivity to diversity with a commitment to Service Excellence and Patient Family Centered Care. Demonstrated good computer skills.Experience supervising in a union environment.

Work Schedule

Hours: Full-time
Shift: Monday through Friday; 8-hour days; Hours: 0700 - 1530. Flexibility of hours required to attend meetings during the day, and address evening shift support when necessary.
Location: Frankel Cardiovascular Center- Cardiac Procedures Unit - 2A Cardiac Cath Lab
