What You'll Do

The Annual Giving Officer will play a critical role in the processing and stewardship of annual gifts supporting various programs across UMS. The Annual Giving Officer will also be responsible for soliciting Annual Fund donor gifts up to $10,000.

(60%) Annual Fund: Secure and steward new, renewed, or increased funding from individuals making gifts of up to $10,000 annually.

  • In collaboration with the Development Team, develop overall Annual Fund strategy each year -- including discovery, cultivation and stewardship of new and existing donors.
  • Plan, design and implement UMS's print and digital Annual Fund solicitations, collaborating with the UMS Marketing & Communications team.
  • Identify new constituent prospects and create an Annual Fund communication plan.
  • Work with the Development team to establish Annual Fund revenue goals for the fiscal year.
  • Coordinate and establish benchmarks and regular reporting processes to measure results of all annual fund activities.
  • Assist with coordination of and communication to donor/prospect groups and/or recognition programs to acknowledge donors at the appropriate level and retain long-term donors.
  • Prepare personalized giving reminders as needed.
  • Serve as the UMS liaison to the Annual Giving office at Office of University Development (uAG).
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the funding needs and organizational priorities of UMS.

(25%) Gift Processing / Data Management

  • Process all gifts and prepare acknowledgements for all gifts in a timely manner, including realized bequests, stock transfers, payroll deductions, matching gifts and other gifts given through the Office of University Development.
  • Annually pull/create donor listings for publication in Program Book and on UMS website.
  • Prepare and track all gift agreement paperwork and processing.
  • Gather, record and properly store information in both Tessitura and DART.
  • Serve as department liaison to Gift & Records at Office of University Development (GRA).
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the UMS donor/ticket buyer database, Tessitura, UM database, DART, and be able to assist other development staff when needed.

(10%) Administrative Support/Miscellaneous

  • Coordinate all performance sponsor-related stewardship such as pre-concert emails, program book insert credits, physical and digital venue signage, pre-concert announcements, etc.
  • Attend performances and help staff UMS events when needed.
  • Provide administrative and project support to the Development Team.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

(5%) Trade Partnerships and Program Book Advertising

  • Annually solicit and steward existing and new trade partnerships with local businesses.
  • Annually solicit and steward existing and new advertisers for UMS program books.

Housed on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, UMS is one of the oldest performing arts presenters in the country, committed to connecting audiences with performing artists from around the world in uncommon and engaging experiences. Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of annual giving/development experience in a university or non-profit setting.
  • Experience in sales and marketing, or other related fields will be considered.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Attention to detail, with an appreciation for process.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with individual donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to attend evening/weekend performances and events when needed.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with software programs for retrieving, organizing and researching. appropriate donor/prospect information, as well as data gathering and manipulation.
  • Experience with Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to the arts, or eagerness to learn.
  • Familiarity with Tessitura, UMS's database, and DART, the University's donor and alumni database.


Work Schedule

This full-time position, with workdays Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Work Locations

This position is based in Ann Arbor, MI, on the campus of the University of Michigan.
