Job Summary
The University of Michigan-Dearborn is seeking a highly motivated student with strong written and verbal communication skills to join the Office of Research as an office assistant. The ideal candidate will be professional, flexible, and colledial. In this role, the student assistant will support the research development team by assisting with administrative tasks, communications, and event planning and coordination.
Responsibilities*
- Assist with meeting coordination, scheduling, and calendar updates
- Assist with the writing, design, and dissemination of communication pieces and promotional materials, including newsletters, flyers, brochures, social media (LinkedIn) and website posts related to faculty research and Office of Research events
- Reserve rooms for meetings and events
- Make catering arrangements with Picasso
- Attend and assist with Office of Research events, including set-up and clean-up
- Provide general administrative support, including scanning, photocopying, filing, researching topics of interest, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
- Current UM-Dearborn student, work-study students preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and learn quickly
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Able to manage information in a confidential and professional manner
- Professional etiquette, in person and on calls
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to follow through on tasks
- Desire to assist others and provide excellent customer service as an individual and as part of a team
Desired Qualifications*
- Proficiency in Powerpoint
- Experience with Adobe InDesign/Photoshop, Canva, MyEmma, and social media platforms (LinkedIn, X)
- Experience in event planning
Work Schedule
Looking for a student to work 10-12 hours per week. Flexible work schedule (accommodations can be made for classes, exams and holidays).

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
