Job Summary
The Joint Program in English and Education (JPEE) and the Combined Program in Education and Psychology (CPEP) are both joint PhD programs with units in LSA, housed in the Marsal Family School of Education. The role of the Program Manager offers an opportunity for a bright, energetic, and well-organized professional to play a key role in the two programs. This individual manages the daily operation of the programs, providing comprehensive support to the students, faculty, and chairs of the programs; serves as a liaison to other units; and has independent decision-making authority on matters of significance within the scope of their responsibilities. The JPEE & CPEP Program Manager reports directly to the Educational Studies Managing Director.
Responsibilities*
55% Student Services
- Coordinate all aspects of graduate admissions, including applicant communication, visit planning, and application processing for JPEE and CPEP.
- Advise students on registration, assist with fellowship and funding opportunities, and support annual student evaluations.
- Maintain accurate student records, monitor academic progress, process degree paperwork, and coordinate award applications and recognition.
- Serve as liaison with administrative partners (Rackham, LSA, School of Education, Student Financials, etc.).
- Address student issues related to course scheduling, funding, and policy questions, and meet annually with students to review milestones and degree progress.
25% Administrative Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for the suite, responding to phone and email inquiries for both JPEE and CPEP.
- Liaise with Marsal School and relevant university offices.
- Provide direct administrative support to the CPEP and JPEE chairs, including preparing correspondence, reports, presentations, and handling confidential matters requiring comprehensive policy understanding.
- Oversee mail management and maintain a tidy, welcoming office environment.
10% Meeting and Event Support
- Organize and support meetings and events such as the annual student-faculty meeting, department events, weekly colloquia, and new cohort orientation.
- Coordinate scheduling, room reservations, calendar invitations, and catering in collaboration with necessary parties.
- Represent the programs in cross-departmental recruitment and orientation activities.
10% Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks and provide support as assigned to ensure efficient program operations.
Required Qualifications*
- 4+ Years Higher Education Administration experience
- Excellent prioritization skills
- Ability to cognitively switch between deep focus work and light tasks
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff, and a proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Outstanding organizational and communication skills with the ability to be self-driven
- Ability to maintain the integrity of confidential materials and student information
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience working with doctoral students and/or programs
- Academic advising and/or student support experience
- Knowledge of U-M processes and systems
