Department Overview

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support.

Division Overview

The HITS Enterprise Data & Information Services (EDIS) division collaborates with partners throughout Michigan Medicine, the U-M, and the state of Michigan, to create data and analytics solutions that are used across all levels of the enterprise. Their work enables analytics that support strategic, data-driven decisions by leaders, researchers, clinicians, educators, and administrators. EDIS provides services across the clinical, education, research, and administrative mission domains and is organized around the following core capabilities: Data Governance, Data Foundations, Analytics/AI solutions as full and self-service, Health Information Exchange, and Information Strategies & Delivery.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Reporting and Analytics for the Enterprise Data and Information Services (EDIS) division of Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) department, the Manager for Enterprise Information Delivery-Cogito Analytics manages the technical, administrative, and operational objectives of the team across the data and analytics lifecycle, from problem definition to deployment and maintenance.

The Manager of Enterprise Information Delivery-Cogito Analytics has responsibility to architect analytical solutions, coach team members, and assign work related to designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining solutions that could include one or more analytical methods such as descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive, and cognitive analytics to support clinical, business, and academic operations and initiatives. Customers of this work include Revenue Cycle teams, clinical departments, Strategic Planning and Business Development teams, Human Resources teams, Academic IT Administration, Medical School Administration, and others.

Responsibilities*

  • Manages technical development, operations, and administration of the Cogito suite of tools as a unified BI platform, serving as Epic Cogito Project Manager for Michigan Medicine
  • Lead Epic BI and analytics implementations to meet organizational objectives
  • Collaborate with other functions to provide cost effective, innovative, and value-add solutions that leverage collective HITS and EDIS capabilities.
  • Develop strong vendor relationships with Epic, including Technical Support, R&D, and Epic Implementation Services, in effort to represent Michigan Medicine's voice and preferences with Epic Cogito products
  • Make decisions regarding projects, programs and initiatives that support the objectives established by the Director, Senior Director, Chief Information Officer and other Michigan Medicine executive leadership
  • Ensure compliance with standard protocols and/or process for business intelligence, analytics, and AI.
  • Collaborate with EDIS Leadership team members to enable data and analytic goals with technical expertise, resources, infrastructure and other related capabilities.
  • Contribute to and help shape the Cogito strategy from a technical, process, and governance perspectives, including the development and maintenance of a roadmap for enhancements that align with organizational priorities and analytics maturity.
  • Serve as a liaison with other Analytics teams and MiChart application teams, fostering intentional relationship-building to ensure clear communication, coordinated engagement
  • Promote and support MLOps reporting and data capabilities in Cogito
  • Promote the adoption of Epic-standardized tools and workflows that enhance the value of the Cogito product by accelerating speed to insight, reducing cost to insight, and driving consistent, scalable analytics practices.
  • Manage day-to-day analytics development activities, prioritizing tasks, and communicating effectively with customers, team members and other technical areas.
  • Promote and sustain team competency in the latest Cogito developments and related AI and Fabric connections. Coach team members and guide their technical development and ability to deliver cost effective, practical, and innovative analytical solutions.

Supervision Received:
The Manager for Departmental Information Delivery-Cogito Analytics, EDIS, reports to the Director of Reporting and Analytics, EDIS.

Supervision Exercised:
The Manager for Enterprise Information Delivery-Cogito Analytics, EDIS, exercises technical and administrative supervision over the analytics team members.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7 years of professional experience including at least 2 years of IT related experience
  • 5 years in a managerial/supervisory or team lead role overseeing 5 or more direct reports

Desired Qualifications*

  • BS/BA or greater in Computer Science, Mathematics, Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Experience in developing data and analytics solutions through the full analytics life cycle
  • Experience with Epic's Cogito suite of tools and underlying databases such as Clarity and Caboodle
  • Experience with Epic's Cognitive Computing Platform (ECCP)
  • Current Epic Certification in one or more Clarity Clinical Data Models
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric and Azure ML/MLOps
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other enterprise BI tools and platforms
  • Experience with SQL and data modeling
  • Experience in Python
  • Experience supporting the academic mission of healthcare
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, persuade and enlist a diverse stakeholder community
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and champion team decision-making
  • Demonstrated skill in effective communication with others of different views and levels of understanding
  • Demonstrated record of success in coaching and developing others

Work Locations

This position is being made available with the ability for you to negotiate alternative work schedules and remote/on-site options to suit your work-life balance.
