Job Summary

Michigan Media, an auxiliary multimedia production unit within the Office of the Vice President for Communications at the University of Michigan, is looking for a creative, proactive Producer to join our collaborative team.


Reporting to the Director of Michigan Media, you'll create high-quality video and multimedia projects- managing them from initial concept to final delivery- for organizations and initiatives across campus. We're looking for someone with outstanding technical skills, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for creating compelling visual stories.

Responsibilities*

  • Be the primary client contact for assigned projects, managing them from pitch and proposal through to delivery
  • Collaborate with clients and team members to bring creative video concepts to life
  • Develop project estimates, timelines, outlines, and creative proposals
  • Oversee and perform all phases of production: planning, scripting, scheduling, filming, directing, editing, and post-production
  • Operate modern cinema cameras and professional video equipment; provide hands-on videography
  • Participate in live event productions, including live direction, videography, and real-time editing
  • Create a variety of content: social media videos, vertical and promotional pieces, recruitment features, training and informational videos, and more
  • Adapt to different roles within a flexible team to ensure the success of all of our projects
  • Incorporate client feedback and deliver polished final products with timelines in mind
  • Contribute to the goals and activities of the Office of the Vice President for Communications
  • Accommodate a variable work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends

Required Qualifications*

  • You have 5+ years' professional experience filming and editing creative video content and managing creative projects from start to finish
  • You have advanced skills with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc.)
  • You have experience operating modern cinema cameras and video production technology
  • You have experience communicating with clients and managing multiple media projects at a time
  • You're an effective storyteller, able to create content that captures authenticity and emotion
  • You can bring strong writing skills to scriptwriting, content proposals, and production planning.
  • You know how to address concerns, incorporate feedback from a variety of stakeholders, and keep projects moving forward.
  • You're comfortable working both independently and as part of a creative team.
  • You're used to managing deadlines and finding high-quality solutions to creative challenges.
  • You can move and set up A/V equipment, and transport it on or off campus (valid driver's license required)
  • You can provide work samples as part of this application process, clearly outlining your role on each project.
  • You are authorized to work in the United States.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in video, film, marketing, communications, or similar field
  • Experience estimating labor hours for video projects of varying size
  • Experience with live event video production and live editing
  • Experience developing social media content and familiarity with platform best practices
  • Familiarity with AI-based tools to enhance content production and workflow
  • Drone operation experience and Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
