Job Summary

A Business Intelligence Analyst Senior for Supply Chain Services plays a pivotal role in designing, developing, and delivering strategic business intelligence solutions that advance a clinically integrated supply chain within University of Michigan Health. This position reports to the Supply Chain Services Applications and Analytics Solutions Manager. Leveraging advanced data analytics, emerging artificial intelligence (AI) tools, and innovative strategies, this position generates actionable insights that optimize supply chain processes, improve patient care, and enhance organizational value. The ideal candidate exhibits strong technical BI development expertise (with prior experience in Tableau/SQL and a deep focus on Power BI, DAX, and MS Fabric), applies predictive and generative AI-driven analytics, and leads proactive process improvement ensuring that data-driven decision-making is seamlessly embedded throughout the supply chain.

As the organization transitions to Microsoft Fabric, the analyst will harness Fabric's full capabilities including Power BI, Lakehouse, Data Factory, Warehouse, and Copilot?while maintaining knowledge of legacy platforms to support migration and integration efforts. This role is both a champion for innovation and a steward of data quality, governance, and continuous operational excellence.

Responsibilities*

Strategic Analytics & BI Development

  • Conceptualize and develop cross-functional strategic objectives, business processes, and supply chain initiatives that drive or maximize organizational value using advanced analytics and AI-driven solutions across both legacy and Microsoft Fabric platforms.
  • Design, build, and maintain interactive, visually compelling dashboards and reports in Power BI, leveraging Fabric for data integration, predictive analytics, machine learning, and other AI-powered features. Maintain familiarity with Tableau for migration or support as needed.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL and DAX queries; manage ETL processes and pipelines with Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse), exploring opportunities to automate and enhance data preparation with generative AI and Copilot tools. Support and transition from SSIS, Python, and Tableau Prep as appropriate.

Data Interpretation & Communication

  • Analyze and compare courses of action by applying advanced quantitative methods, predictive modeling, and analytics using both Fabric's analytical engines and AI integration, and legacy skillsets as necessary.
  • Translate complex supply chain data and AI-generated insights into clear, actionable recommendations and narratives suited for executive and operational audiences.
  • Evaluate and deploy generative AI platforms (such as Microsoft Copilot) to automate business intelligence workflows, including routine report generation and natural language data queries for end-users.

Project & Change Management

  • Manage or participate in cross-functional projects and teams, identifying opportunities to pilot and scale AI, ML, and Fabric-driven process improvements; work collaboratively in migrating from legacy BI environments to modern cloud solutions.
  • Assist in identifying, planning, and executing change management processes for new or improved business processes, analytics workflows, and the adoption of Microsoft Fabric BI/AI resources.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Training

  • Collaborate with internal partners in procurement, logistics, clinical operations, and IT to understand reporting needs and deliver impactful, AI-augmented analytic solutions using the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.
  • Provide training and ongoing support to end-users on data visualization, analysis tools, and emerging AI technologies?ensuring best practices are followed for dashboard performance and user experience in both Power BI and legacy tools such as Tableau.
  • Engage and collaborate with other business intelligence teams outside of Supply Chain Services to support the integration of key data assets, foster knowledge sharing, and actively participate in analytics communities of practice across University of Michigan Health.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Supply Chain, Statistics, Business Analytics, or related), or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or similar roles, with proven success supporting supply chain, operations, or healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Power BI and/or Tableau including creating and maintaining interactive dashboards, advanced calculations (DAX/SQL), and model performance optimization.
  • Exceptional skills in SQL (and DAX), with a strong background in developing complex queries, data modeling, dimensional design, ETL, and data warehousing concepts preferably within cloud-based environments (Microsoft Fabric, Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse).
  • Proven ability to identify, define, and deliver actionable insights for process and business improvement.
  • Experience supporting custom or low-code applications; strong backend design and data provisioning skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills, including presenting results and insights to leadership.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgment in high-impact business decisions.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Azure/Fabric-related, or Tableau Desktop Certified Professional certification.
  • Working knowledge of supply chain principles, healthcare regulatory and data privacy requirements (HIPAA), and clinical operations workflows.
  • Programming skills in Python or R for advanced analytics, and experience with Azure ML or generative AI integrations.
  • Experienced with version control systems such as Git, including check-in/check-out processes, production release management, technical documentation, and collaborative analytics development on cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma, Agile or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience migrating from legacy BI platforms (e.g., Tableau, SSIS) to Microsoft Fabric, and direct involvement in digital transformation or cloud modernization projects.
  • Ability to explain complex data systems and analytic concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

  • This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring a minimum of three days per week (Tuesday through Thursday) on-site at the Ann Arbor office on Green Road, with the option to work remotely up to two days per week.

Background Screening
