Job Summary

The Guo lab is seeking a technician to work with a group of scientists focusing on aging and regeneration in two emerging model systems, the freshwater planarian and the leopard gecko. We would like to recruit motivated individuals to fill this position and want to promote science as well as the candidate's career in the biomedical fields. This is a great training opportunity in modern molecular and cellular biology, next generation sequencing and microscopic imaging. Responsibilities*

  • Work with Dr. Guo to setup an automated planarian culturing system.
  • Prepare planarian culture medium in an automated setup.
  • Weekly feeding of animals on the automated system.
  • Daily monitoring of animals on the automated system.
  • Assistance in experiments in molecular biology.

Required Qualifications*

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in a relevant biological science, for example, Biology, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, or Chemistry
  • 0-1 year experience required
  • Willing to handle planarians and multi-task to complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability to work in a team project environment
  • Motivation, organization skills, and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Evidence of lab experiences with basic molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, DNA/RNA extraction or molecular cloning.
  • Experiences with tissue sectioning and staining, such as H&E, immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence

Modes of Work

Additional Information

This is a term limited position of one year with the option for renewal if funding is available. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening
