Job Summary

The Student Admin Assistant Intermediate plays a critical role in the Student Veterans Resource Center to ensure timely reporting of VA education benefits and military tuition assistance funding for veteran-connected students. This position reports to the Program Manager of the Student Veterans Resource Center and supports the certifying and processing of Veteran Affairs and Department of War benefits for veterans and eligible military-connected students.

The SVRC currently serves student veterans in many areas, including academic assistance, GI Bill and VA education benefit assistance, career preparation, and established connections with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other community Veteran Service Organizations (VSO). Through established connections to campus and external community partners, the SVRC proudly serves Veterans, National Guard and Reserve, as well as spouses and dependents of student veteran population at UM-Flint.

This is a part-time 25 hour (62.5% effort) per week position with an annual salary range of $21,437.50 - $26,812.5.

Responsibilities*

  • Certifying (70%)
    • Assist with School Certifying Official Responsibilities for VA
    • Assist with School Certifying Official Training
    • Process Veteran Affairs (VA) and Department of War (DoW) Educational Benefits

  • Compliance (10%)
    • Conduct Student Degree Audits
    • Monitor and Maintain Program Compliance
  • Veteran Student Support (10%)
    • Counsel VA Connected Students
    • Act as a Liaison and Advocacy for VA students

  • Administrative Support (3%)
    • Provide customer service and support
    • Answer phones/department email
    • Maintain Databases
  • Provide Veteran Student Outreach (2%)
    • Participate in campus and community outreach events

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of administrative support experience
  • Must have customer service experience
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to use advanced software and computer applications, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Suite applications) with demonstrated capacity and ability to learn required VA and DoW applications
  • Demonstrated strong writing and general communication skills
  • Must have attention to detail

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with VA education benefits and DoW military tuition assistance programs
  • Experience using VA's Enrollment Manager program

Modes of Work

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
