Job Summary

The Dominos Farms Cardiovascular Medicine Clinic (DF-CVM) is seeking a self-motivated, compassionate, enthusiastic, patient-oriented Patient Services Intermediate who will share in the goal of creating the ideal experience for our patients, families, staff, and faculty. This individual will be responsible for supporting the Cardiology nursing team, including scheduling for our specialty clinics, Lipids, Hypertension, and the Metabolic fitness program within Cardiovascular Medicine. In addition, they will be required to process paperwork, schedule appointments, answer telephone calls, and assist with patient and family inquiries. Additionally, their responsibilities will be working at the check-in and out desk within the clinic. This individual will be required to communicate with many levels of faculty and staff across Michigan Medicine so must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities*

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Check in and check out responsibilities
  • Process disability and FMLA paperwork for patients.
  • Support the Hypertension and Lipid program with lab retrieval, scheduling, and patient reminders.
  • Support cardiology nursing team with faxing and processing medical records. Assist with external labs.
  • Responsible for scheduling patients within the Metabolic Fitness program and follow up testing, labs and appointments
  • Responsible for providing complex scheduling and care coordination services for the department clinical staff including requesting medical records from multiple healthcare centers. coordinating with multiple medical teams, and triaging appointment requests to appropriate departments.
  • Schedule appointments with multiple providers/disciplines and diagnostic areas.
  • Schedule and manage Leqvio shots and obtain prior authorization.
  • Coordinate with other department schedulers to optimize use of service block time at other units across Michigan Medicine.
  • Manage daily work queues and along with supervisor, set work standard.
  • Accurate data entry and appropriate distribution of patient results.
  • May also be required to provide coverage for other areas within the clinic while they are on vacation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED


General supervision is received from the Administrative Manager and the clerical lead. Staff members in this classification are expected to exercise judgment in identifying problems, seeking, and implementing solutions.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing of office materials.

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum 3 years of experienceGraduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • 3 or more years of customer service experience within a medical environment
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Michigan Medicine electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a high-volume area.
  • Comfortable working with computers and general knowledge of office practices.
  • Prior experience as a patient service assistant in cardiology.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology; specifically, cardiology

  • Prior experience performing complex scheduling.

  • Familiarity with obtaining medical records or professional medical billing.

  • Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and prioritization skills. Ability to multi-task and work in a high-volume area.

Modes of Work

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
