Job Summary

The Brighton Center for Specialty Care is the newest University of Michigan Ambulatory Care facility dedicated to providing high quality health care services for adults and children. We are actively seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-oriented individuals who will share in the goal of creating the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.

Responsibilities*

Scrub cases for multiple specialties in a fast-paced outpatient setting

Anticipate needs of operative team, while monitoring and preserving the sterile field

Review case cart for correct instrumentation and supplies

Perform patient transfers as needed

Ability to lift twenty-five (25) pounds

Ability to wear lead for surgical procedures

Ability to stand for extended periods of time

Work as a team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel to assist with operative procedures

Work collaboratively to prepare rooms between cases

Participate in problem solving efforts for the department, on-going QA activities, new employee orientation, and student education

What skills would you master?

Performing daily assistance with our state-of-the-art instruments, sutures and additional sterile supplies during the procedures.

Effectively turnover and transfer instruments to CSR/Decontamination.

You will demonstrate your ability to accomplish tasks in a calm and reliable manner while delivering excellent patient care.

The expansion of your knowledge and improve your skills on passing instruments, retracting tissues, and operating equipment during surgery.

Multitasking while keeping a detailed focus on the surgeons' needs for instrumentation and supplies as needed.

The ability to work under pressure and in situations that demand perseverance and stamina, while transferring patients as needed.

Capable of maintaining positive in challenging situations.

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of an accredited or military Surgical Technologist program.
  • Two years? experience as a Surgical Technologist

Desired Qualifications*

Certification from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

Ambulatory experience

Experience in a Pediatric setting

Recent experience (within two years) with any of the following: general surgery (minimally invasive, oncology, endocrine), gynecology (minimally invasive, oncology), Otolaryngology (FESS with Fusion, Sleep Endoscopy)

Self-motivated and excellent organization skills

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Schedule

This is a 0.9 FTE (3) 12hr Shifts

Work Locations

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
