Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Project Manager to support complex, high-impact initiatives within Anesthesiology and Perioperative Services. This role will lead a diverse portfolio of projects spanning quality improvement, clinical operations, workflow optimization, and facility/construction initiatives in a dynamic healthcare environment.

The Project Manager will partner closely with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to drive measurable improvements in patient safety, efficiency, and care delivery. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to navigate ambiguity, and the confidence to lead initiatives across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities*

  • Lead end-to-end project management for multiple concurrent initiatives, from intake and planning through execution, implementation, and sustainment

  • Partner with physicians, nursing, and operational leaders to translate strategic priorities into actionable project plans

  • Develop and manage project charters, timelines, milestones, and deliverables

  • Identify risks, barriers, and dependencies, and proactively develop mitigation strategies

  • Drive quality improvement initiatives using structured methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA, FMEA, etc.)

  • Analyze data and performance metrics to inform decision-making and measure outcomes

  • Facilitate meetings, working groups, and stakeholder engagement across all levels of the organization

  • Support operational improvements across perioperative workflows (pre-op, intra-op, PACU)

  • Contribute to construction and facility-related projects, including workflow design and activation planning

  • Develop clear, concise communication materials for leadership, committees, and frontline staff

  • Ensure alignment with regulatory, safety, and institutional standards

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple concurrent, multi-phase projects

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into action

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including clinical stakeholders

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse audiences

  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively in ambiguity

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

  • Candidates should have knowledge of UM policies and procedures.

Senior Level Required Qualification:

  • 5+ years of project management experience in healthcare or a similar complex environment

Intermediate Level Required Qualification:

  • 2-4 years of project management experience in healthcare or a similar complex environment

Desired Qualifications*

Experience in perioperative, anesthesia, or hospital operations

Familiarity with Epic (e.g., OpTime, Anesthesia) or other healthcare IT systems

Experience with quality improvement and process improvement methodologies

PMP certification or equivalent

Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau)
