Job Summary
The Department of Pharmacology in the University of Michigan Medical School is in search of a Managing Supervisor for the new RNA Design and Synthesis Core that will be housed within the Life Sciences Institute at the University of Michigan. The Managing Supervisor will report directly to and work with Dr. Michelle Hastings.
Responsibilities*
As the selected candidate, you will:
- Source, obtain and set-up the relevant equipment and reagents for the design and production of synthetic RNA molecules including ASOs, siRNAs, guide RNAs and mRNAs.
- Obtain additional funding and support for the facility as the demand and capacity grows.
- Recruit, train and manage at least 4 and ultimately a larger team of additional staff of the RNA Synthesis Core.
- Oversee budget operations.
- Control research expenditures.
- Scientifically, responsible for designing, testing and optimizing RNA molecules to provide high-quality service for users of the Core.
- Develop a testing pipeline and innovate around procedure, operations and design.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and standards.
- Prepare progress reports.
Required Qualifications*
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics or a related field
- 10+ years of RNA research experience
- Experience in both industry and academic lab settings
- Knowledge of human genetics and disease mechanisms
- Direct experience in designing and developing ASOs to manage user requests and project prioritization
- 2+ years of supervisory experience

This position is part-time and not benefits eligible.
