Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support.
Division Overview
The HITS Clinical & Revenue Cycle IT (CRC) division is responsible for more than 350 clinical and revenue cycle applications that clinicians, staff, and patients rely upon every day. The CRC team has subdivisions that support inpatient, ambulatory, departmental, and revenue cycle areas across Michigan Medicine (MM). CRC also oversees many of the major IT platforms and applications such as electronic health record, virtual care, pharmacy, radiology, radiation oncology, registration, document management, billing, and much more. The CRC team is highly relied upon across the healthcare system and collaborates with operational partners to provide excellent service to the MM staff. Staff within CRC often interact with customers on a regular basis by implementing and configuring workflows, enhancements, optimizations, and new modules or software while also ensuring adequate change control and testing processes occur. Team members work on a vast array of projects that propel MM into the future.
Job Summary
The MiChart Billing Team at Michigan Medicine is seeking a candidate to serve as a Business Systems Analyst supporting the Michigan Medicine Epic electronic medical record (EMR), known as MiChart. The Billing team provides technical build, support, and maintenance for Hospital Billing, Professional Billing, Single Billing Office, Claims, Contracts, and other Revenue Cycle workflows.
As a Business Systems Analyst, you will serve as the primary support contact for the application and will be responsible for issue resolution, enhancements, and project work that impacts end users. This role requires knowledge of the organizations policies, procedures, and business operations affected by these applications.
Responsibilities*
Business Systems Analyst responsibilities and behaviors include
- Under minimal supervision, lead the planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of MiChart (Epic) workflows.
- Perform analysis of department and end-user business needs, document requirements, and translate requirements into proper system specifications. Analyze business workflows and system needs for new features and enhancements. Document current workflow processes and collaborate with users to identify, define, and document process improvement options and alternatives.
- Participate in software upgrade projects of varying complexity. Review release documentation, analyze new functionality, and conduct any subsequent build, testing, and user validation.
- Analyze, compare, and evaluate various courses of action to determine the best path forward for our team and customers.
- Collect information regarding potential system enhancement needs.
- Develop and document project team procedures for implementing system changes and other tasks.
- This position has the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of responsibilities.
- Participate in change control processes and procedures.
- Participate in training and work with end users.
- Work with internal (MiChart/HITS) and external teams (Epic and other third parties) on integrated issues and configuration.
- Coordinate the life cycle of a change (design, build, test, educate, communicate) and maintain complete documentation within ServiceNow.
- Assist other ACs with functionality in which you are the knowledge owner.
- Obtain and maintain Epic Hospital Billing, Professional Billing, Claims, and/or Reimbursement Contracts proficiency by completing necessary projects and/or exams.
Required Qualifications*
Requirements for Senior Level
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of IT-related experience supporting hospital electronic health record systems, with a focus on billing.
Requirements for Intermediate Level
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2-3 years of IT-related experience supporting hospital electronic health record systems, with a focus on billing.
Desired Qualifications*
- Epic Hospital Billing, Professional Billing, Claims, and/or Reimbursement Contracts certification or proficiency.
- Previous experience working at an Academic Medical Center.
- Knowledge of Hospital and/or Professional Billing workflows, and Epic Charge Router build.
- Experience implementing Epic functionality, supporting upgrade processes and Nova note review.
- Experience with Epic security and access management.
