- Fosters a work environment which promotes inter-professional collaboration, effective communication, team member engagement and retention, and professional growth and development both within assigned departments as well as throughout the organization and community served. Effectively manages human resources.
- Actively participates in the evaluation, creation, and implementation of policies and procedures to integrate current scientific evidence with standards of practice. Ensure internal and external regulatory standards are met or exceeded.
- Ensure human, space and material resource allocation aligns with department needs. Engage with key stakeholders to develop plans to address resource deficits/surpluses in the ever changing health care field.
- Continually assess and improve the department’s performance in all areas to include, yet not limited to, customer service, quality clinical care and financial goals. Accountable for achieving clinical outcomes as defined by national standards and the organization's strategic plan.
- Participates in leadership activities to support the strategic plan of the Medical Center.
- Accurately forecasts and manages budget for the department(s).
- Assures development of and participates in programs which address continuous quality improvement and system enhancements.
- Establish and promote a nursing research philosophy and framework that advances nursing science to promote the delivery of quality patient care and improve patient outcomes.
- Provides leadership in research programs to promote the delivery of quality patient care and improved patient outcomes
- Conducts periodic medical center nursing research needs assessments to incorporate into the nursing strategic plan to foster nursing research.
- Serves as an advisor for Nursing Research related committees and initiatives, providing educational and leadership supports for activities
- Contributes to UVA School of Nursing mission as appropriate including educational activities and research collaborations
- Provides supervisory oversight to other persons who may be assigned to the Nursing Research Program
- Provides expert consultation to nurse clinicians and interprofessional teams though all stages of the research process
- Forges collaborations with key health system and academic departments and people including the Health Sciences Research and Social and Behavioral Sciences Institutional Review Boards
- Ensures a robust Nursing Research Program with processes that maintain rigorous file/data management throughout all stages of the research process.
- As principal investigator, seeks intramural and external funding to support their program of research
- Ensures dissemination and promotes translation to practice of completed research projects as appropriate
- Regularly briefs the Chief Nursing Officer and Dean, School of Nursing on status of the research program
- Collaborates to ensure the organization meets or exceeds Magnet benchmarks related to research and contributes to the Magnet self-study documentation and evidence
- Fosters an environment for research activities that support excellence through diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Research doctorate in nursing (PhD or DNSc) or related field (ScD, EdD). If doctorate is in discipline other than nursing, must hold BSN or MSN.
Experience: Prefer minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible clinical research experience and knowledge of the extramural grant funding application process. Demonstrated record of dissemination activities (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, clinical trails, oral presentations). Demonstrated expertise in mentoring and coaching team members from a myriad of experience levels and backgrounds. Must be qualified for faculty appointment with UVA School of Nursing. Be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, be results-driven, and work collaboratively.
License/Certification: Must hold a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and be eligible for licensure in Virginia.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
