Senior Budget Associate

The Dean’s Office within the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Senior Budget Associate. The School of Engineering and Applied Science consists of 9 departments across the field of engineering. The school has seen tremendous growth in student population and faculty, as well as in its research expenditures in recent years. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Budget, the Senior Budget Associate will work closely with the Finance and Budget team as well as Dean’s office areas and departments.
- Oversee day-to-day business operations of a unit or team, monitor accounting operations, research and make recommendations on resource allocations, plan and coordinate data management, record-keeping, and financial reporting needs.
- Provide traning and development of newly assigned or less experienced personnel in budgeting and analyzing variances.
- Manage finance functions and staff, providing regular reports and recommendations to senior leaders, ensuring compliance with GAAP procedures.
- Monitor operating budgets, expenditures, endowment income, and foundation budgets, where appropriate.
- Responsible for taking on particularly difficult or complex finance tasks, using a depth and breadth of finance and institutional knowledge to complete them to a high standard.
- May perform all day-to-day duties of Finance Generalists, as needed.
- Lead the School's annual budget and multiyear financial plan development
- Serve as liason between the School and central University for all budget matters
- Maintain forecast for entire School, and perform monthly variance analysis

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant subject
Experience: At least seven years of experience in a financial discipline, likely with supervisory experience. 11 years of relevant/finance experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: May hold CPA or other advanced financial certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
